Roatan by rental car

Hi fellow cruisers...this is my first post. I hope i don't mess up:) !

 

My hubby and I are traveling on Carnival valor in August 06 and have excursions planned for Grand Cayman, Costa Maya and Belize. We thought about renting a car and going on our own. Canopy tour, Iguana farm and a beach. Has anyone rented and gone on their own? How big is the island? I checked at Avis (Roatan Airport office) and can get a sub-compact for $41/day. Does anyone know if they will pick you up at the dock or do we need to find a taxi to the airport.....

 

If anyone has experience in this I would love to hear about it!

I don't know if i would be brave enough to rent a car in Roatan, We have a taxi tour booked and for $45pp they are taking us to the canopy tour, a tour of the Island and to Gumbalina park.

Hi,

I thought that the only way to go to Gumbalimba Park was through an excursion booked through the cruise line. Is this not the case?
