RxDawg Posted June 29, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2006 This is our first trip to Hawaii, booked on the POAM 7/8/06. Need help locating the black sand beaches. None of the ship excursions mention it. Which ones are recommended, and can I get there without a car rental? Any help would be appreciated. southern guy Posted June 29, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2006 We visited 2 on our trip on POAM in May, both require a car. At Hilo you go on past VNP about 25 miles and there is a nice beach with sea turtles. On Maui there is one just before you get to Hana on the Road to Hana. This was a beautiful beach. lambs2 Posted June 29, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2006 That black sand beach not far from Hana is in Waianapanapa State Park. Such a GORGEOUS spot with many natural rock formations, arches and lava tubes.
akeka Posted June 29, 2006 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2006 Does anyone know the name of the beach SouthernGuy is referencing on the big Island?
lambs2 Posted June 29, 2006 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2006 The black sand beack he mentions on the island of Hawaii with the sea turtles is Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. See the photos in the link below. http://www.volcanogallery.com/Places-Punaluu.htm
RxDawg Posted June 29, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted June 29, 2006 Thanks everyone for the help. I guess my next step is to go read the threads on car rentals.
