ute_fan Posted July 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2006 What Western caribbean itineraries does it list? The only one I've seen info on so far is for the Spirit (I think) leaving out of NO. Is that the only one?
shoreguy Posted July 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2006 Looks like the first winter the Dawn was in NYC with some change to the 7 day. Fewer 10/11 day cruises to maximize the revenue from the ship. I would expect more 10/11 in 2008-2009. I have no desire to cruise to FL again especially in Dec and Feb.
electricron Posted July 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2006 What Western Caribbean itineraries does it list? The only one I've seen info on so far is for the Spirit (I think) leaving out of NO. Is that the only one? It appears NCL will have three ships sailing from Miami that winter. Both the Pearl and Jewel have alternating 5 day itineraries to the Western Caribbean and 9 day itiineraries to the Southern Caribbean. The Dawn will have 7 day Eastern Caribbean itinerary. The Majesty sailing from Charleston and the Sprit sailing from New Orleans will have 7 day Western Caribbean cruises. It appears there will be no Texacaribbean cruises sailing from Houston that winter. This is going to make many Texans angry....

familyof4cruising Posted July 3, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 3, 2006 I am disappointed I would have liked to sail out of NYC for February Break or Spring break - but the 7 day itinerary does not excite me. linsue1231 Posted July 3, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted July 3, 2006 ShoreGuy, Norwegian Sun 10 day Hawaii 2007: Oct 10, 31; Nov 21; Dec 12... These dates have the little plus sign next to them which states "+ these sailing are on the Norwegian Wind. Remaining dates are on the Sun." As far as the book states the Sun will be in New Orleans. 2008: Jan 2, 23; Feb 13; Mar 5, 26; Apr 16 These match up with the book. I see no 2008 dates for New Orleans but for Hawaii. They do not conflict with the dates I stated from the book Norwegian Sun 11 Day Hawaii 2007: Sep 29; Oct 20; Nov 10, Dec 1, 22 2008: Jan 12; Feb 2, 23; Mar 15; Apr 5 These are also correct as said in book. I see no 2008 dates for New Orleans. They do not conflict with the dates I stated from the book. Norwegian Sun 13 day 2007: Sep 16 This is also correct as said in book. It does not conflict with dates I stated from book. But as we all know they do make changes so maybe they made changes after the printed.;) Linda
ute_fan Posted July 3, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 3, 2006 It's really too bad about the Texaribbean ones. We enjoyed that itinerary, and flying into Houston from SLC was an easy flight (even if not always cheap). For us, it doesn't make money sense to fly into Miami for a 5 day cruise, and neither of our work schedules will allow us a 10 or 11 day cruise right now. I guess if we want to get back to the Western Caribbean we'll be looking into New Orleans. Personally, I think NCL is headed the wrong direction with these itineraries. I'm sure we're not the only ones who can't get more than a week off at a time, and less than a week just isn't appealing. I can understand their wanting rotating schedules so folks who can cruise for 2 weeks can do a B2B with different ports, but I question the wisdom of having both the Pearl and the Jewel based out of Miami doing that. Maybe their market research proves otherwise, but I would have thought the majority of cruisers preferred a 7 day schedule. As much as I hate to admit it, we may have to start looking into other cruiselines to meet our schedules :( .

The reason NCL schedules 7 day cruises during the school break periods is because most families can only take 7 day cruises. Longer cruises would require them to take the children out of school and would be more expensive for a family. In addition, Orlando (Disney World, Space Center etc.) are very popular destinations for children.
electricron Posted July 3, 2006 #15 Share Posted July 3, 2006 The Norwegian Wind's last NCL cruise starts on April 14, 2007. linsue1231 Posted July 3, 2006 Author #16 Share Posted July 3, 2006 Dophins, I dont know if I am to sad about that...really I hope it is because they are making some changes on Itineraries, mostly for out of NYC. UTE, I know what you mean about taking two weeks off, but DH only used 6 work days an I only used 5 for our 10 days on the dawn. I guess we were lucky as we both work in the city and DH works only like 5 blocks from the pier. We both worked on the thursday the ship left, only working until about 12;30 and walked over to the ship. My office was clossed that friday for verterns day so I just had to use 5days, DH took off that friday and only ended up using 6 days vacation. I think it also helps what day the ship leaves as to how many vacation days you have to use. Just another reason why I love leaving out of NYC. But I am not to happy where they have us going, so I also may have to look into using another line out on NY/NJ. :( Linda

I could work in the morning, take final calls from the ship in the afternoon and worse case take 6 vacation days for a 10 day cruise. ute_fan Posted July 3, 2006 #18 Share Posted July 3, 2006 I'd love to be close enough to the port to not have to factor in travel days, but they haven't found a way to sail a ship from Utah yet  . For us, the 7 day ones are ideal, as we like to fly in the night before the cruise. The flight to Houston was only 3 hours or so, so we could sneak out a little early on Friday for a late afternoon flight to Houston. For our upcoming trip to Miami, it will literally take us most of the day on Saturday to get there so we can spend Saturday night before boarding the ship on Sunday. Our flight leaves around 9:30 on Saturday morning, has a 2 hour layover in Dallas, and gets into Miami at 7 p.m. Looking at these itineraries and factoring in travel time, we're going to be pretty limited for choices. I guess it's time to start looking at the Mexican Riviera, or possibily a return trip to Alaska :D .
flyingpirate Posted July 3, 2006 #19 Share Posted July 3, 2006 Well, I'm going to cross the Gem off of my list..... It looks like the long itineraries are the same as the Dawn, and we will have done them both by the time Gem comes online. As the suite finish will be nowhere near as nice as the Dawn, I can't see paying the same (or more) for the same voyages again, especially having to fly cross country first. So, we Fools will most likely be doing the Star for Halloween 2007, instead of the Gem Inaugural as planned, I'm already booked. Also really disappointed about Houston, it was closer to L.A. and we'd planned to try it........

They are just starting to build the Gem, and we all know it will be headed for New York City. Therefore, in a round about way, I believe the suite finish will be nicer than on the Dawn....NCL will outfit it to meet the expectations of most of it's passengers.
