Sunnystone Posted July 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2006 What is the "safest" early flight time you would recommend booking to go home when the ship is coming back into Redhook? Is a 10:30am out of JFK too optimistic? thanks!
JohnLauben Posted July 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2006 10:30 AM out of JFK is just about impossible! Weekend travel times to/from the airports will differ from times on weekdays, due to traffic (weekdays) and/or construction projects (weekends). If you figure on a 7:30 AM arrival time, you can be off the ship by 8:30 AM if you carry your own luggage; else, figure between 9 and 10 AM. Getting a taxi can incur a bit of a wait. (Remember, the ship can arrive late, and can have issues clearing customs; times can and do vary.) With early dis-embarkation, figure 25-50 minutes travel time to LGA, and 55-75 minutes to JFK (for weekdays). Dis-embarking later will reduce time to LGA to 20-35 minutes, and 40-60 minutes to JFK (likely both weekdays and weekends). Allow 2 hours to check in at either airport; a little more at JFK if your flight is international. Warning from previous experience ... the AMERICAN AIRLINES terminal at JFK is severely overcrowded mid-mornings, and is undergoing construction. There are MANY flights to the Caribbean in this timeframe, leading to check-in delays. Allow extra time.
HotJet Posted July 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2006 We have been struggling with the same issue. We had initially booked an 11:30am flight from LGA, but have now changed our plans to a 2:30pm departure to be on the safe side. An 11;30 was possible if there were no glitches, but between unexpected ship delays, roads, taxis, customs and airport security...we began to feel that we would be too stressed with an early departure. We are booked at 2:30, but if we arrive early we can go standby for an earlier flight (flights every hour)....if not we will enjoy a few post-cruise beverages at the airport and look at all the cruise pics we will save on our laptop.:)
l2kruz Posted July 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2006 So glad I found this thread, just the information I was looking for. Could you please give me an idea how much I should expect to pay for a cab/limo from LGR to port.
