St. James Park Tube Station

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the St. James Park Tube Station has escalators? I need to exit the tube at this station to get to my hotel and I will have luggage and don't want to have to lug it up any stairs. Thanks for your help.

Have you looked on http://www.tfl.gov.uk or http://www.tflwap.gov.uk ? I think there's a link to "accessability" or similar that will tell you.

I'm landing at Heathrow and using http://www.hotelink.co.uk for a shared mini-van to a hotel near Marble Arch--cost 17 GBP ($30.77 at 6/30/06 exchange rate). They meet you in the Arrivals Hall, escort you to the van, and drop you at your hotel--a lot less hassle than the train (or Tube) to Paddington + cab (or Tube to St James's Park).

Have a great trip.

I use this station a lot when I am in London, and I do not remember seeing any escalators..they may have an elevator, but I am not sure. There are a number of staris, and you may bne best to follow the previous poster's advice about a shared ride as it would be a lot easier with luggage.Maybe some one will know this stop better than I.

Whew!

It took a while, but Google helped find the info that the Tube's search query box couldn't!

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/pdfdocs/colormap.pdf shows station facilities in the listing at the bottom of the map. It shows no "access" (no lift/elevator) symbol for St. James's Park, but as Single Cruiser helpfully mentioned, Westminster does. Another site, http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/tube-westminster.php has info about station facilities and what is nearby. I've sent an e-mail to the "Tube people" asking about access, but haven't had a reply.

Depending on where you want to go, it may be closer to Victoria--but that station is very hectic and has long passageways connecting the various lines.

Also, you may want to get info about station/line closures (esp. on weekends)-- Westminster has reduced escalator service now, which will put pressure on the lift service.

BTW, Queensway and Heathrow Terminal 4 Tube stations are both closed for repair. Details on the site.

No, it definitely doesn't. The stairs are the equivalent of about 1½ storeys of a building.

I believe that Victoria station also has no escalators for the Circle/District Lines. If you're needing to get to St James's Park station, it seems almost certain that those are the lines that you'd be on as you go through Victoria.

To get from Westminster station to a hotel near St James's Park station (or, indeed, from Victoria station) with luggage will probably involve a taxi.

Westminster has reduced escalator service now, which will put pressure on the lift service.

Queensway station is now open again. On that line, however, Lancaster Gate has now closed.

Terminal 4 is joined to Hatton Cross station by a shuttle bus. This is actually a very fast and easy service to use, unlike many bus transfers. There are (free) porters provided at Hatton Cross station to help you get your luggage to and from the trains.

Westminster's reduced escalator service ought not to cause the OP any concern. It currently consists of no down escalator from the eastbound Circle/District Lines towards the Jubilee Line, and no down escalator from the eastbound Jubilee Line to the westbound Jubilee Line.
