Shipwreck Snorkel - Tell me about it!

I'd like to know more about the Shipwreck Snorkel. My wife thinks it would be spooky. Is the wreck partially above water or completely below water? Is it an old Spanish galleon or a modern ship? And lastly, it is a good place to snorkel, lots of fish and creatures, etc.? I read one message that seemed to indicate that the snorkeling there wasn't very good. Educate me!

Don't know which wreck they would take you to as there are over 200 sunken ships in Carlisle Bay, Barbados.

 

The biggies are the Pamir @ 165' in length, the Stavronikita @ 135' and our own Bajan Queen.

 

They all lay in 20-60' deep of water but visibility is generally 80-100'.

 

 

Most of these ships were sunk on purpose to create an artifical reef or barrier.

 

I wouldn't classify it as being a hands-down knockout, but if you've never snorkeled a wreck, or dived, you should find it quite nice.

Almost forgot......

 

If they take you to the northren part of Carlisle Bay to Dottins Reef, you will probably see a few of our dear friends, the Hawksbill Turtles, protected as are wales in Barbados....

I've been on dive trips to both the Pamir and to Dottin's reef.

 

When I read the post I thought the OP may have been referring to the small boat that is in the mouth of the downtown harbor - that was our first stop on our Heatwave sunset cruise.

 

That was a fun, easy snorkel - we even saw a scorpionfish on the wreck!
