dutrie Posted July 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I will be in Europe later this summer and have considered purchasing a GPS to navigate some of the cites we will be stopping in; however, the units that I have researched are described for use in North America. Do the Garmin or Magellan GPS units contain even a basemap for Europe? Has anyone taken their US GPS to Europe? Was it useful? David
KLLund Posted July 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I know you can download international maps on the Garmin. We plan to do that for the orient this fall. Will be our first time with it also
MV21 Posted July 10, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2006 In the UK the TOM TOM 910 is marketed as having all of Europe and USA on the hard disk. So even if it was bought in the USA I would imagine this would be the same and so would meet your needs
H2OIAN Posted July 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I have a TOM TOM one with all the Europe maps. It is an absolute godsend. The unit is portable, about 4" by 4" by 1". Lasts for about 4 hours from 1 charge. I have programmed the touristy bits of Rome, Seville etc. into the memory as points of interest. Don't know if this particular unit is available in the US but any of the other brands should do the same thing as mine works fine in the States. Tater1800 Posted July 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I have a Garmin Quest. It contains a World base map. This unit can be loaded with detailed maps for Europe.
