Now that I have the booze on board...

Recommended Posts

The "Bringing Alcohol" messages were informative. My question is: once you get the booze onto the ship, how do you disguise it while enjoying it onboard throughout the day? I get that you store it and mix your "poision" in your stateroom, but then what? Do you have to keep going back to your stateroom to refill? Do you carry around a flask?

I am sorry if these questions are dumm - I'm new at this. Your suggestions are appreciated.

Thanx!

We usually just bring beer to enjoy on our balcony. When we are out and about we buy from the bar. The kids will bring rum and coke and just mix it in their room, and take out in the evening. They will usually order a drink from the bar and then just use the same glass.

Good luck!

Personally, I think one should only consume it while in their stateroom. This is not an all inclusive vacation; therefore, drinking your smuggled booze in public areas is not a good idea. Most cruise ships allow you to bring beer, wine and soda. The wine may be cosumed in the restaurants after paying a corking fee (if applicable). Now walking around the ship with your own beer or booze, in my opinion, is pushing it.

That's what is so great about these boards. Everyone has their own opinions. That's what makes this world so great. But I think the OP was just asking a simple question. I don't think he/she was asking how anyone felt about it.

It's your vacation. Drink it wherever you feel like drinking it. I've had it confiscated on NCL at embarkation where they wouldn't return it until the end of the trip yet we bought alcohol in ports and they let it pass through. Figure that one out. I've had our luggage arrive at our stateroom with large yellow and black "warning" tape on my luggage that said "Liquor" in huge letters on each of the suitcases. But, it wasn't taken. On Crystal they let it go right through and even brought mixers to us and we've never had a problem when sailing RCCL either. So, don't try to hide it, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

We have smuggled alcohol on each of our cruises. My partner is a bit reserved about it, but I take it in it's original pint-sized container in my backpack, which I carry everywhere.

Then when I want to spice up my "drink of the day" or to spike the fruit punch, I just pour some into my glass.

I am always discreet. But at the same time, I don't go back to my cabin just to fix my drink.

Do what feels right for you and enjoy your cruise!

D.

We bring our own large thermal mugs... to either drink iced tea by the pool or what ever else we care to put in our mugs. The mugs are large enough that when we mix in the cabin... we are good to go for a while before needing a refill.

I was alreay planning on bringing on some wine, but know I think I'll get a couple mickies, we don't drink a lot of the hard stuff, manly beer, and put it in the luggage after we fly into Ft. Lauderdale. So the cabby will be asked to stop at a liquor store on the way to the hotel. Hey I think I'll pick up some beer for that night too.

On our honeymoon cruise (a long time ago, before they changed the rules about liquor) we bought the drink of the day on the first day in souvenir glasses. We then went to the duty free shop on board and bought some rum for DH and Kahlua for me, which back then they allowed us to take to our cabin. We had room service bring us mixers, would just mix up the drinks in our souvenir glasses, and walk around on deck with them. The room steward was great about washing the glasses for us. We aren't big drinkers though, so we didn't bother to bring a bottle up on deck with us - just the drink we mixed in the cabin.

Have a great trip and enjoy!:)

We bought thermal mugs on board and used them the entire cruise. When I wanted the DOD, I simply handed my empty CLEAN mug to the waiter and had him fill it with a double and it fit nicely and stayed cold and icy far longer in the insulated mug than in the plastic cup. I did not bring it to the restaurants or the clubs- that was tacky, but for around the pool and in the casino, I was among many who did the same thing. I was never sneered at and as long as I handed the bartender the mug clean, I was ok. We would go to the room and mix our own- no one was the wiser. In the restaurant and clubs, we would order a drink and then go to the room for a refill.

On a cruise a few years ago, we brought on Kahlua and Vodka. The first morning we ordered room service with coffee and cream - we just put the cream in the fridge and used it as needed for our drinks. A glass from the room (or buffet - I can't remember) would be filled with ice in the cabin, the drink would be made, and then we'd head to the pool. No one ever said a word (or noticed I'm guessing).

I did this because we had a huge alcohol bill on our first cruise in 2002, so this saved a lot of money. However, I don't know if I'll do it again. Packing the booze, getting the cream, getting the ice, going back to the cabin when - right as you finally get to the end of a Grand class ship - you knock over your new drink, etc.

Besides, I like margaritas, and the blender might get a little noisy in the room :D .

My DH and I love to have a drink before dinner when we are on vacation and if possible out on the balcony. We may fill our glasses again before we go out for the night but we don't go back to the cabin for refills. We buy a specialty drink here or there on the ship. I do bring 2 bottles of wine with me because I really enjoy nice wine and the ship does not have what I want. The specialty drinks they have on board are fun and different than something I would get at home. However, my son and his cousin on our last cruise filled the small trash bucket from the room with ice and beer and "covered" it with a sweatshirt! I don't approve of that-its tacky and bad mannered and I took their trash bucket away!! We all have our own ideas of what is acceptable!!!

We brought rum on our last cruise, and we also brought our own insulated mugs. We purchased a soda card also. We brought our rum up to the deck in our bag, but we had it in plastic water bottles (so looked like water). We would get a pop refill, then add our rum discreetly.

Call me trashy, I don't care...:D

I brought Bombay Sapphire gin and DH brought Jack D. We both filled a glass with ice and each night at dinner just brought it into the dining room. It is our favorite cocktail and we go it just the way we like it. It wasn't watered down at all.:p We also had some cocunut rum which goes with almost anything. Bought the cocktail of the day and then enjoyed our drink in the souvenir glass the rest of the cruise. Boy do we have quite a few jof those glasses at home.

Besides the recommended insulated mugs filled with your liquor and mixer...for an extra drink/refill and not having to go back to your cabin, take a couple of empty mini bottles. Fill them with your liquor in our cabin before setting out and put them in your pocket or fanny pack. Then you can fill up you drink cup again with your own brand of liquor.:D

:)Happy Cruising!:)

Has anyone brought beer on? It seems to me that would be the easiest to disguise - if they serve it in the can and you have the same cans, who's to stop you from bringing a can from your room? You could even order one of the buckets on the first day then refill the bucket with your own beer.

One question though - what kind of beer do they serve in the buckets on board? I can't remember if it was Coors Light or Budweiser on my last cruise.

I plan on bringing one of those minature Grand Marnier (sp) to add to the Bombay (which I plan on buying in the duty free store on ship) my favorite martini. When I am around the ship will order Bombay Sapphire straight up and use a never before used perfume atomiser (sp) and just spray it on top - just the right amount.

Hey Judy, why are you wasting your time on this thread? This thread is for people who are looking for information, not for idiots like you who have nothing better than to judge other people with incorrect stereotypes. I have a higher income than the average person, actually, its higher than most peoples' income, but my DW and I still bring our own liqour (moderately) on because we like to have a drink before dinner in our cabin and occasionally elsewhere. We spend plenty of money at the bars, but prefer to save some as well.

Maybe you should spend your spare time volunteering at a local shelter, or reading a good book....just don't share your unwanted opinion with people who don't care what you have to say.

And maybe you should bite me. If you don't care what I have to say, block me and you won't be bothered with my posts.

I was making an (admittedly) sarcastic point. I don't understand stashing booze and breaking a rule to save a little money on a cruise you paid good money to go on, especially people who are broke out with money as you proclaim to be.

As an aside, I don't care if people live in a mansion, a trailer or a tent. It ain't a mobile home once you take the tires off it.

Get over yourself. Take a chill pill. Have a merry Christmas and all that crap.

Have a Merry Christmas... but let's try to leave the "crap" at home. Take on your cruise, whatever you will, and enjoy life as you see fit..

We are all judged, to one degree or another, everywhere we go. Judgement is especially unfair, however, when it is a result of an admitted lack of understanding. There is much we ALL do not understand, but that does not necessarily give us the right to anything more than an opinion, regardless of whether that opinion is an educated one.

IMO. ;)

That's deep, Scooter!

I wasn't judging anyone, friend. Sorry the trailer comment riled everyone up. I'm sure folks with mansions tote a few Scope bottles full of vodka on board. I was merely saying I don't understand scheming to break a rule. If that's OK, so is shoplifting, if you can come up with a crafty approach of doing it.

You're right... to each his... or her... own. Wear a wife beater and your nastiest-a**ed jeans to formal night, get tanked on smuggled booze. Have a ball. It's vacation, after all.
