Sandytoes Posted July 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2006 I have never taken a taxi.... So please excuse this question, it might sound stupid, but I have no clue. When they say a fixed rate is that for per person or per cab? How can I tell if I'm being ripped off? Read on line that Taxi's offer fixed rates to and from tourism zones. Do you know the zones? How hard is it to get a cab at the beach? Planning on going to Escambron Beach.
encore Posted July 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2006 I think you are talking about the Tourism Taxi program, you can find more information regardint the fixed Taxi rate via the following link: http://www.topuertorico.org/tinfo.shtml Scroll down the page till you see"public transportation", "Taxi", then you will see the zone and fixed rate information. Hope it helps.
MSN-Travelers Posted July 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2006 Reference the web site listed above for fixed rate information. Rates are per taxi. I believe Escambron Beach is located in the Puerta de Tierra zone and should cost $7 from any of the SJ piers. Here is a link to an aerial view of the OSJ area so you can visualize where everything is located. http://www.langland.org/cruises/sanjuan.asp Enjoy! texancruzer Posted July 11, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 11, 2006 Just a tip..... always ALWAYS agree on the price BEFORE you get in the taxi with the driver. Tell him exactly where you want to go and ask "how much ?" Knowing ahead of time what the fare should be is a big advantage too. Sometimes, not always but occasionally a driver will try to charge more than the allowed rate. So knowledge is good :p At the airport they have a taxi hut.... you tell the person in charge where you want to go and they give you a 2-part form with the price right on it.... luggage is extra (per piece) but not much. We always had the doorman at our hotel (we stayed a few days in San Juan precruise) get our taxis and confirm the price. Have a super time in San Juan - hopefully you will take an hour or two and check out OLD SAN JUAN. We fell in love with it.
Sandytoes Posted July 11, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted July 11, 2006 Encore & MSN-Travelers - Thanks for the links. Very Helpful. texancruzer - occasionally a driver will try to charge more than the allowed rate. I thought that might happen. especially if there is a language barrier. I hope the cab drivers speak English....Thanks for the advice. If my DH allows, I would love to Old San Juan....
