cruisernan Posted July 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2006 We are on Star Princess July 24 and have booked Princess transport (Princess on your own) for Stockholm - seems safer for returning to the ship on time. However, I would like to know where Princess drops off and picks up in S'holm. The description only says 'city centre'. We are wondering how far afield we can go and still allow time to meet the return bus. Thanks for any info.

Rick_VA Posted July 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2006 We did the "Stockholm on your own" with included Vasa Museum (6/16/06)....they dropped us in Gamla Stan along the Waterfront (east side) after the museum tour for about 3 hrs of independent sightseeing. We had time to see the Royal Palace, eat lunch and do some shopping before getting back on the bus for Nynashamn.
mgibson301 Posted July 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2006 We are also signed up for that tour. Do you remember the time table as far as when you arrived and had to be back to the bus? Thanks!

mmmmm Posted July 16, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2006 We just got back from our Star Princess cruise. We took the Princess transportation and were fairly happy with it, but sharing a taxi would allow more time and flexibility in town. We met at 8:30 with a 9:15 scheduled departure time, but we were actually on the bus and driving away around 9:00. It was only a 45-minute ride to Gamla Stan (near where you catch the ferry to Skansen), but it took another frustrating 15 minutes for the bus to go a couple of blocks, turn around and drop us off across the bridge from the palace. We had to be back at the bus by 3:45, but most people arrive by 3:30. We were in line for the ship by 4:35, and it took 15 minutes to get on. We had actually ordered a taxi and then cancelled when Princess closed the Stockholm tours at 7 p.m. the first night, and we weren't there in time to cancel our bus with them. The taxi didn't get our email, however, and they were there waiting with our name on a card. There were other taxis available also. Ours (Taxi Stockholm <inger.brihage@taxistockholm.se> had a fixed price from Nynäshamn to City 650 sv/kr., about $90). I would have a taxi drop you when you first get to Gamla Stan and pick you up at the VASA museum or Skansen or whereever you plan to end your visit. My husband has bad knees and we were worried about getting back to the bus on time (not knowing the ferry schedule), so we took a taxi from the VASA to the pickup point across the bridge from the palace, (only a short distance) and it was $30!) Plus the driver said we could use dollars and then wanted to charge us an extra $5 for using them.
MTemple212 Posted July 17, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 17, 2006 If you can get down the the explores lounge early that day at 6:30am, you will get your tender ticket and be on the first tender to shore, and enough time to catch the 7:37am train to Stockholm. All day transportation pass is only 60kr and available at the newstand store next to the train stop. We had originally booked the ships tour for $96each and we didn't spend that much the whole day, even on food and souveniers and transportation!! We saw everything we wanted to see and got back on the 1:52 train back to Nynashamn and were back on the ship by 3:30. Gamla Stan is wonderful as is the Vasa!!
