jvajzp Posted July 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2006 This will be our first cruise and we are so excited about it. I have a question about getting around on the Glory. I have read that it is somewhat confusing to navigate this ship and want to try to get a little instruction before we go. Our cabin is "supposed" to be on the Main deck in cabin 2422. It looks as if we are located right by the stairs and elevators. Do you know if we can take the elevator all the way up to the lido deck where the Red Sail is? Just trying to figure out how to get to the restaurants, as I feel that will be my main concern (eating)!!!:) Thanks for any info you may have!! CruzVinnieCruz Posted July 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2006 The restaurants are the problem on the Glory. On certain decks you cannot get to the aft restaurant. It's confusing you hit a bulkhead so you either have to up a deck or down a deck. At least it confused the crap out of me. The rest of the ship was a breeze. big_duck Posted July 14, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Despite the pitching and moaning of the spatially challanged, navigating the Glory is not that difficult. It is just on deck 3 and 4 where there is the problem of the galley being in the way. The elevators just outside your cabin will take you right up to a lobby between the aft doors to the Red Sail and the aft pool area. If you are assigned the Platinum restaurant, it is one deck up from your cabin (take the stairs). If you are assigned the Golden restaurant you will need to take the first stairs/elavator forward of your cabin.
jvajzp Posted July 14, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted July 14, 2006 thanks for your responses. I know I have seen a post on here before with a link to a plan of the ship. It was color coded, if I remember correctly. Does anyone have that link? Thanks!
lukegr Posted July 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2006 thanks for your responses. I know I have seen a post on here before with a link to a plan of the ship. It was color coded, if I remember correctly. Does anyone have that link? Thanks! http://www.carnival.com/Deck_Plans.aspx?shipCode=GL Is that what you were looking for? I was on the Glory in 2003 (my first cruise) and it was a breeze to navigate. I'm really surprised that some people have difficulty with it.. I can't imagine what they're like on the roads.. As well, what date are you sailing? We're heading out on our second Glory cruise on the 19th of August.
Gloryhound65 Posted July 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2006 It's on Carnival's site. Fun Ships, deck plans. Pick your ship. Dining rooms are on decks 3 and 4. The promenade deck, deck 5, is the best way to get around from one end of the ship to the other, if you don't want to to go topside. It's the only lower deck that gives you direct access from just short of the bow (Amber Palace) to the stern windows in the Ebony Cabaret. It's also where most of the lounges are, and the casino, too. I think it's my favorite lower deck. Chris
joetrizeo Posted July 14, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2006 read my tip thread on navigating the magica, its almost identical to the Glory.
Rare silentbob007 Posted July 14, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2006 All it takes is a little forethought ... if you are going to the aft dining room, you just need to go all of the way aft before worrying about navigating up or down. On your deck, you can walk all of the way aft, then take the stairs up to the Platinum dining room ... pretty simple.
jvajzp Posted July 14, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Thanks, everyone! lukegr - I am actually looking for a post that listed a site that was for some individual travel agency, I think. I will keep looking for it. I'll post it again if I find it. We are actually leaving the Saturday before you!! Aug. 12, so you will be boarding as we are getting off!!:( It is always good to hear about people returning to the same ship more than once!! You must have enjoyed the ship! Are you Western or Eastern for the Aug. 19? We are Western and haven't decided on any excursions yet. We are so excited, we can hardly stand it! Anyone have any kids with them on their Glory cruise?? Wondering about Camp Carnival - 4 and 10 year olds. THANKS EVERYONE!!

Its one of the few decks that goes through the entires ship.It really isn't that difficult. We were on the Glory last week and within a day of exploring managed our way through the ship just fine. Make sure you carry the deck plan with you until you know the ship well. You can also go through the Lido deck as well to go to the front or back of the ship. You will see its not as bad as people say it is to navigate once you are on her. Happy sailing!!
Rare silentbob007 Posted July 14, 2006 #11 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Having been on the Glory and the Valor for my past 3 cruises ... I'm conflicted about my Miracle cruise in that I'll have to learn a new layout! Dang it! My last two cruises were with new cruisers, so it was kind of nice to be a "tour guide" and show them the ropes immediately after boarding the ship. :)
