lorinphil Posted July 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2006 is there an inexpensive way to get from FCO to the cruise port @ civitaveccia? train/metro/shuttle/tram etc?
wwinfl91 Posted July 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2006 If you are flying in and going directly to the ship to board, the cruise ship transfers may be the most efficient and probably about the same cost as other methods. Going by train with all your luggage can be a real problem. You can take a taxi or arrange for a private pickup but you will probably end up paying about the same or more than you would using the cruise line service. The other advantage is the cruise line service will guarantee you will make it and on time. Here is a link to the airport transportation from airport site. http://www.airwise.com/airports/europe/FCO/FCOtran1.html And here are some shuttle services I have links to. http://romashuttle.com/content/rates.asp http://rome.shuttle-airport.com/rome_fiumicino_airport_shuttle.html http://www.airportconnection.it/ShuttleServicetesto.htm http://www.airportshuttle.it/ Here is a link about public transportation in Rome. I think you can take a train from the airport to Rome and then from Rome to the civitaveccia railroad station and then take a taxi from there to the actual port. http://roma.freewebpages.org/roma-tr.htm Here are a couple of port web sites. http://www.port-of-rome.org/indexen_GB.php?module=Home&idMenuSel=&idNetwork=&idAttivita=&idServizio=&nome=&carattere=p http://www.world66.com/europe/italy/lazio/civitavecchia I would suggest seeing what others on the board say and also do a search on the board and you should find other people who asked this question and see what answers they got. Have a great next cruise.

tom_uk Posted July 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2006 The train is the cheapest by a long way: single fare from FCO to Roma Termini on the Leonardo Express: €9.50 pp. Then a single fare from Roma Termini to Civitavecchia: about €6 pp. However, aspects of it are hard work. First, the trains themselves are awkward to get into if you have a bag - you have to climb up two or three high steps from the platform. There's a lot of walking at Termini station - the platforms for the Leonardo Express are on the side of the station right at the back. Then there's a 10 minute (or so) walk from Civitavecchia station to the port entrance. And finally you've got to wait for a port authority shuttle bus at the dock gate to take you to your ship. We did this (or most of it - we actually used a bus chartered by a member of our contact group for the bit to the ship from Termini) because of the overall savings on air & transfers - Celebrity wanted to charge us £350 (that's British pounds in case the symbol goes missing) each for air fares + transfers. We did it all on our own for just under half that cost, but as I say it was hard work. So much so that for next year's cruise we have decided to go with the inclusive air + transfers, especially as the price from our TA was more reasonable than from Celebrity. laucruise Posted July 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2006 The cheapest combination (8,50 € total) : train from Civitavecchia to airport but change at TRASTEVERE STATION. From Trastevere station to Fiumicino airport take a frequent train (no Leonardo): http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/TimeTable?stazin=civitavecchia&stazout=fiumicino+aeroporto&datag=22&datam=07&dataa=2006&timsh=09&timsm=00&lang=en&nreq=5&channel=tcom The only complain about this combination: in Roma Trastevere need change platform using a subway passage, they are elevators for descending to subway but don't work well allways.
