missyal Posted July 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2006 Do we have to fly into FCO( Fiumicini sp?) in Rome for our cruise from Civatavecchia or can we fly into Leonardo Da Vinci or Malpensa or any other airport? I'd like to get a non stop from the New York area. Any suggestions? Thanks in adavance. Missyal P.S. I would have posted this on the cruise air forum but I know lots more people are looking in here.:D
Cleopatra Posted July 21, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2006 Leonardo da Vinci is the former name for Fiumicino and yes, it is the closest airport to Rome and the port Civitaveccia. Malpensa is the airport for the city of Milan. You can fly nonstop to either, but would then have to travel from Milan to Rome if you chose to fly to Malpensa airport for whatever reason. Clearly you should fly NY-Rome. That airport is named Fiumicino.
missyal Posted July 21, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted July 21, 2006 Thank you Cleopatra! I had a feeling there were no real options. Now I have to get busy finding a flight.:) Missyal
tom_uk Posted July 21, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2006 There is another airport in Rome, and that's Ciampino airport. However I don't think it's used by any intercontinental flights. Several of the UK's budget airlines (eg, bmibaby, easyJet) use it for Rome. However, it's not really any closer to central Rome that Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumcino), and I suspect that transportation into central Rome is tougher than it is from Fiumcino. There is no train from Ciampino, just buses. So in practice, if you're coming from the US then Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumcino is the only sensible choice for Rome
