Tania Posted May 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2004 Does such an animal exist? I didn't notice the last time I was there. I had booked a hotel around San Marco until I realized that with 6:30 AM flight, we're better off as close to the airport as possible. Even if Aliguna were operating across the pond that early, it would be a waste of time to go to bed. Any ideas? * Star Princess 07/04 * Grand Med Diamond Princess 03/04 Mexican Riviera Sun Princess 12/03 Southern Caribbean Grand Princess 12/02 Western Caribbean Royal Princess 08/02 Western Europe & Iberia Ocean Princess 08/01 Alaska Pacific Princess 12/00 Holy Land & Greek Isles Carla C. 03/83 Southern Caribbean
Hornblower Posted May 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2004 Check out the following website: Venere.com - Venezia Mestre accommodation which will give the accommodation in the Mestre area (mainland Venice), or do a search for accommodation at Venezia Mestre with the date, number of persons and rooms required. Mestre is the main town nearest to the Marco Polo Airport. There is a B&B called Verde Venezia at Tessera which is the locality of the airport. The travelling time from here is 5 minutes. Each accommodation search will have its own map. Cheers [This message was edited by Hornblower on 05-26-04 at 02:45 AM.]
Tania Posted May 27, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 27, 2004 Thanks hornblower. I also found www.flyhotelvenice in Tessera which has a shuttle to the airport. I did a search on the Fodor site and came up with a bus that leaves P. Roma at 5 am at a cost of 3 euros, 20 minute ride to the airport. I'll be looking for a hotel in that area. One night in Venice I hadn't counted on. Yippee! www.atvo.it for bus schedules The Aliguna boat leaves San Marco square at 4:35 am but I don't fancy an hour on the water first thing in the morning...LOL... The ability to find information on internet never fails to surprise me at times... * Star Princess 07/04 * Grand Med Diamond Princess 03/04 Mexican Riviera Sun Princess 12/03 Southern Caribbean Grand Princess 12/02 Western Caribbean Royal Princess 08/02 Western Europe & Iberia Ocean Princess 08/01 Alaska Pacific Princess 12/00 Holy Land & Greek Isles Carla C. 03/83 Southern Caribbean

Hornblower Posted May 28, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2004 Well done Tania, it is amazing what a little research on the Internet can dig up. Now you have the option of either staying close by the airport or in the area of Piazzale Roma, which is called Santa Croce Ovest. To find the right accommodation do another search with Venere.Com starting off with the dates required, the search engine will come up with a list of accommodations. At the bottom of the page you’ll see a map showing the different areas of Venice. You can do a search by clicking an area of the map. For a higher quality map go to: Venice Explorer – Interactive Downloadable Maps For a close-up map of Piazzale Roma go here: Piazzale Roma It is interactive, which means you can click on a menu and see where the hotels, waterbus stops, etc., are located. But also don’t forget to cross reference these with the maps on Venere.Com as Venere.Com has all possible accommodation (B&Bs, Apartments, etc.) listed. Hopefully you’ll find something nice and inexpensive close to Piazzale Roma. Good luck. Cheers
