Shops Close for Siesta?

I just read on a Cozumel information site that the shops are generally opened from 9-2 and close from 2-5 due to their siesta. The shops at or near the piers generally stay open it says.

Is this true for downtown Cozumel? That will take a large chunk out of our shopping time if they close down.

There was a time when that was the case...now, most shops are open throughout the day, especially those on main streets and near the piers.

There may be a few of the smaller "mom pop" type smaller stores that takes some siesta time but you see that less and less. Reality is that many can't afford to close.
