Groups Using Bad Judgment

For the second day, folks are posting on the RCI board concern about the fact that a large group of bears is scheduled to be part of their cruise. Although a lot of the posts are pretty homophobic, a number are understandably put off by the fact that the web page advertising the cruise promotes its sponsorship by a porn web site and includes a link to a pretty pornographic little film including guys "fooling around" on their cruise cabin balcony. Obviously, what guys do in the privacy of their own cabins is their business, but making this little treat available on a website that will be found by anyone googling to find out who is going to be on their cruise is remarkably foolish judgment that could have negative repurcussions for other gay groups.

Same thing happened on the Princess board last year – apparently some passengers were so incensed at the fact that a group of bears would be on board (including stories of how people were having sex in the pools) that many people…or at least a group of them all riled up on the roll call…asked Princess for cancellations.

I’m sure there is lots of filming of sexual acts on board ships. My real question is why Joe Average from the mid-west is checking out a bears porn site? One person on the Princess boards who confesses to be Born Again was so all over the site that she could almost recite it link by link. I don't think the issue is so much the group that's sailing but the people who think they have it ALL figured out just by looking at a few web pages. I certainly don't think the Bears should hide who they are to partake in a cruise - that's going back to the closet. Instead, they should be model citizens while on board (which I hear they were from a straight friend who sailed Star Princess with them) so as to dispel stereotypes.

"sigh" not to suport or disagree with their actions, but we all have the freedom to do what we want in privacy...and yes tape it...and yes distribute or sell it to whom we wish. There is as much hetro porn as gay porn out there. The guys on the cruise do not do anything out in the public areas that any other person does...is there hand holding yes, kissing yes....sex no. I respect them for having the courage to at least not hide on a charter. The bears are paying the same group price as everyone else and have every right to do what they want as long as it doesn't go against the cruise lines TOS. If people are upset about the bears, than can change their cruise....I see no reason why the bears should do anything different.

I have no problem with a group of bears doing a group cruise, nor with their having sex in their cabins while on their cruise or filming it if they want. The bad judgment is putting a link to a porn film on the advertising site. Lots of people google the name of their ship and dates in order to find out who is going to be on their cruise.

I'm getting the idea thats what they want. Their advertising strategy is to market to those that have similar interests. The positive side of other people seeing the video, is that it gives them the oppurtunity to change their cruise if they wish. It can prevent the "cruising for Jesus" group from running into the "bear" group if they so wish

I'm glad that thread was closed. It didn't seem productive. The only person who made sense was the one who said "lots of people like porn, that doesn't mean they will be doing it in front of you." The person who suggested Googling for "bears + porn" to see what "these people" are like...ugh! Um, hello, if you Google for porn, you are going to get porn! That's what happens. That doesn't mean that all bears are sex-crazed porn fiends. Ugh...that whole thread left a bad taste in my mouth.
