Rdwhite1999 Posted August 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2006 We would really like to do this excursion because we have seen the wonderful reviews on these boards. However, we are a little concerned about being able to make it to their check in location by 8:30 since this is a tendor port. How far away from the dock is their office? Has anyone had trouble getting to their office by the 8:30 check in time?

Bucky3 Posted August 4, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2006 We have done this trip several times. To my knowledge it is not an excursion that can be booked through the ship. We booked it ahead of our cruise. Our ship didn't arrive in Kona until 8AM, and we were able to get down to the Fairwind pier just as the boat was boarding by taking a taxi right from the pier. It's a great day. I would hesitate to pay in advance - we just asked that our name be put on the list and told them we would call when we were in the taxi and on our way. Of course, if they are booked full with prepaid passengers, you would be out of luck. But there is plenty to do in and around Kona if for some reason you were not able to make the boat in time. You will not have time to rent a car and get there. They leave promptly at 9AM. Good Luck and have a great day in Kona! You might check on http://www.cruisecal.com to see what ships, if any, will be in port with you. The Fairwind is quite a large catamaran so they can take a good number of people and yet it won't seem crowded.
dgaston Posted August 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2006 Just returned from Pride of Hawaii and we loved our snorkeling on the Fair Wind. Their staff is tremendous. We made sure we were getting our tender tickets as early as we could. With numbers 35 and 36 we made the first tender to Kona and took a taxi for the 25 minute drive ($20) to the Fair Wind. We were among the early arrivals. The driver had given us a business card, and came to pick us up. He suggested we check out the flea market when he learned we wanted to buy some Kona coffee. It worked out very well for us! HTH
