harrowgirl Posted August 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2006 We will be on a Eastern Med cruise and are planning on doing the following ports of call on our own: Ephesus, Turkey Rhodes, Greece Mykonos, Greece Santorini, Greece Are these cities easily doable on one's own, or should we really get a guide? Thanks!
Aussie Gal Posted August 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2006 You will need a guide in Kusadasi to take you to Ephesus and explain the ruins to you. It is an amazing place. The best guide I believe is Levent Solmaz. Our friends have used him and thought he was wonderful. We went many years ago before private guides were available. Here is a link to postings about this subject. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=389031 With regards to Santorini and Mykonos you do not need a guide in either of these islands. In Santorini, you can walk and shop in Thira or catch the bus to Oia which is very easy. In Mykonos, again you can walk around the town and if you want to go to the beach, just catch one of the local buses. In Rhodes, the old city is where you will tie up. You can catch a bus or a taxi to Lindos which has some wonderful ruins. Here is a website which may interest you. http://www.travel-rhodes.com/ Hope this helps.
