what to do on our own in marseille?

We would like to do something on our own as we have already booked two private drivers. Is there a chance we could get to Aix en provience by train or a bus. can we get to the train station in marselille or bus station. thanks

As I recall, it's a short 30 to 40 minute train ride to Aix.

 

Aix is the birthplace of artist Paul Cezanne and the town is marking the 100th anniversary of his death this year. A wonderful Cezanne exhibition we saw at the National Gallery earlier this year will be in Aix this summer, I understand.

 

Rick Steves' 2006 book on Provence has a lot of good information.

You could do it but it would be tight if you are there from 7 - 2 . Also if you are there on a Sunday most everything is closed .
