bayberrymom Posted August 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2006 Hi: We're cruising for the first time on the NCL Dawn on 8/26. My question is does anyone think it is necessary to bring sneakers for my boys ages 5 and 8? I am packing water shoes, sandals and dress shoes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!:)
familycruzer Posted August 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2006 I think it would really depend on what type of excursion you will be doing. If hiking or a lot of walking is involved, then yes I would take sneakers. If not, leave them home. I usually have everyone wear their sneakers on board because its easier to pack sandals. schweer432 Posted August 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2006 I packed them for my kids and they were never worn. I would say leave them at home. Misty
Baxter Posted August 11, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2006 I'd say it depends on the kids...my step-son wore his all the time, and prefers them to sandals.
helenb Posted August 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2006 Unless you need them for some kind of excursion your kids should be fine in sandals.
Nebr.cruiser Posted August 12, 2006 #6 Share Posted August 12, 2006 Do they wear sneakers much at home in the summer? Unless you are going to do a lot of walking, I'd leave them home. If you take them, do as suggested earlier and have them wear the sneakers for traveling, to save luggage space.
2Cruise4Ever Posted August 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2006 Both my kids wore their sneakers on excursions and during meals, but water shoes and sandals the rest of the time. We were on the Dawn last summer (going again next year!!!). Pics in my signature. You can probably get by without them, but it depends on how much they rely on sneakers at home. They may not be comfortable without them. Happy Sailing! You'll LOVE the Dawn! :D

merela Posted August 13, 2006 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2006 I usually make my kids wear their sneakers while travelling to and from destinations. I just want to prevent any possible foot-related accidents while enroute anywhere. A friend of mine accidently ran the luggage cart over her daughter's sandalled foot once while at the airport. I know that's an isolated incidence, but my kids kick and run around a lot and anything can happen. The kids' footwear doesn't take up as much space as adults' footwear, so I don't cut down on their footwear. I cut down on my own footwear. On board the ship, my kids go everywhere in their sandals. They wear dress shoes for dinners in dining rooms. At different ports of call, if I know there is extensive walking around, I would make them wear sneakers and pack their beach shoes OR sandals in my backpack.
