San Jose Costa Rica hotel?

I've just booked Windstar January 13-20, and will need a hotel near the San Jose airport for Jan. 12 and Jan. 20. Any suggestions? Needn't be fancy -- convenience to the airport, hopefully with shuttle service, is the main thing. Although if a different location would be better, and transportation to/from the airport no problem -- that would be good!

 

I've never been to Costa Rica before so can use any insights you have to offer. Thanks!

We stayed at the Intercontinental. It was clean, and convenient. The grounds, although small, were lovely. The Mariott is also supposed to be nice.

 

At the airport, exit the terminal to the taxi dispatcher to the left. The girls there spoke English, although they appreciated my fractured Spanish. They will take your fare and issue you a ticket to the hotel of your choice.

We stayed at a Hampton right outside of the airport the first night. Did a little trip to Arenal and came back to San Jose before our cruise out of Puerta Caldera. Stayed in San Jose at a Choice Hotel (can't remember what brand name) but they were very accomodating. Breakfast was included and they shuttled us for free over to the Intercontinental where we picked up the cruise's transport to the ship. That hotel was in the same family as the Intercontinental and not as expensive.

We also stayed at the Intercontental Hotel , they have a great pool and bar . We stayed on the exec floor, very nice.
