Name for the tricycle "rides" you can get from ship to end of pier?

When we were in Cozumel in March we let the kids ride on a tricycle-type thing a guy pedaled for "donations" from the ship to the end of the Punta Langosta pier and then back to the ship again later on (oldest daughter is physically-challenged). There was a seat across the front of the bike for the riders to sit in & the guy was behind them, doing the pedaling. Just wondering if these "thingees" have a name and what most people give $$$-wise for a ride in these? (Hoping I didn't short-change the guy:o ) The ride lasted all of about 5 minutes but the kids found it kind of fun (& a lot easier for my DD). Anyone know about these?

They are called "triciclos" (tree-see-clos, with the accent on the "see"). Generally $3 is the going rate for a ride with an actual destination. To the end of the pier is worth $2, especially if a passenger is physically challenged. The triciclo drivers have families to feed and no other means of support. Keep in mind that generosity comes back to you!

Sally: thanks for the info! Just what I wanted to know. I gave the driver $3 to take my kids to the ship from the pier entrance, so next time I'll up it a couple bucks --- I just had no idea what the "going" rate was! He had a return trip right away with some other people, but I didn't get to see how much $$ they handed him as a point of reference for me. thanks again. :)

These guys were a life saver for me and my freshly broken toe! Loved them! I gave them on average 8-10 bucks... lol I wasnt sure what the going rate was, I just asked my toe what is was worth....
