Excursions

HomeschoolMom

Recommended Posts

I just booked the cruise as a surprise for my family. Dh and kids don't know...I don't plan on telling them until we are leaving. They think we are going to visit family.

Can I decide on the excursions while on the cruise, so they can help pick? I figure some of them will be booked, but are there still usually decent options available once you get on the ship or should I just guess on the excursions now and pray that is what they want to do?

TIA.

What a great Mom you are!:D In answer to your question, I'd say it depends. What ports are you going to and what kind of things are you interested in doing? Will there be excursions available, yes. Will they be what you want to do, maybe not.

Beach type excursions and snorkeling don't really have a maxium, so you're safe with those. But if you want to do some of the Dolphin swim/Ray encounter/Shark tank diving, you may be out of luck if you wait. Being a homeschooler, I'm guessing you would like to use this opportunity to be fun and educational? Depending on the port, you can visit Mayan ruins (which are absolutely amazing) and usually do not sell out. However, I never book through the cruiseline (too crowded and expensive). I always book with independent tour operators, and if you do this you most certainly need to do some research before you go. The tours are much smaller and are more likely to sell out, but a better value and experience all around. IMHO.

Check out the ports of call boards, and good luck!

I think you should wait until you get on the ship and all decide on the excursions together, like the above poster stated, if the excursion you all pick is sold out than just wait until you get to shore, you will find the same type of excursion being offered at the pier for alot less money.

Alright Bethany...what happened to the Valor? I had planned to pick your brains about homeschooling. Anyway..I hope ya'll got that great deal on the Miracle I saw advertising last month. It's a great ship, the kids will jumping up and down with glee when they get a look at her. As for the tours...you can book through indep. guides when you get off the ship...MUCH cheaper. Enjoy!!!:p
