ultrarunner Posted August 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2006 I'm thinkng of taking this cruise to Mexico but am concerned with the kids travel free aspect. Are children likely to be a problem on this Christmas cruise? Any opinions? Thanks Phil

Are children likely to be a problem on this Christmas cruise? Any opinions? Thanks Phil I don't know, but I do know that I don't like "kids sail free" promotions and avoid sailings where that promotion is offered.
see sic Posted August 22, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2006 My parents and I sailed the Mariner to Mexico last Christmas 2005 and they had a "Kids Free" promotion then, also. Before we sailed we tried to mentally prepare ourselves for the "worst" because we had no idea what to expect, but it was all OK. The ship holds 700 people and there was only a total of about 450-460 passengers on board. about 60 of the passengers were age 20 or younger. I am sure the light passenger load helped the situation. I have no idea what the expected load will be like this year because last year they had 2 round trip Mexico cruises from LA---this year there is only 1 round trip LA cruise. Everything was just fine with the young folks on board, but what you better watch out for is all those old, crabby passengers that can never be satisfied and gripe and complain about everything. They are the ones you want to throw overboard. My parents and I are actually booked and confirmed to do this cruise again on Dec. 18 2006, so trust me, if we would have had a negative experience last year, we would not be doing it again this year. The ship is decorated beautifully, it is a very festive mood on board, the kids get christmas gifts from Santa in the lobby christmas morning, there is christmas music piped out on the pool deck, there is singing around the ship with everyone in Santa hats, and there is door decorating contests to celebrate the holiday. And what would christmas be like without kids, anyway??? It will be fun--GO!!! see sic (randy) .
ultrarunner Posted August 22, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Many thanks for your excellent reply see sic. I'm booked and confirmed also. It will be my first Christmas at sea and am looking forward to it - just a bit leery of being swamped by the young uns. I think I was a kid once so may try for a present from Santa myself! Phil - not really a grumpy old critter.
thecleave Posted August 22, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2006 My husband and I are booked on this cruise too. We sailed once over Christmas a couple of years ago on RCCL's Navigator of the Seas...we figured this would be a much better experience!
