angel22230 Posted August 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Well DH and I are booked on the Glory in a few weeks. We received our documents and we are booked on Deck 1 aft. We asked our TA to see if we could be upgraded since we are past guests on Carnival. (2-Fantasy, 1-Holiday, 1-Pride) Our TA was told that since we are nonrevenue customers that deck 1 is the best they can do. I am so upset. Yes, on a few of the cruises we did get great rates, but we went all out for the Pride. I did email Carnival today and told them how I felt. No response yet. Any advice on how you would handle this situation? I really feel like I dont want to cruise on Carnival again and I am trying to not let it upset me so much that I do not enjoy our cruise in a few weeks. Did you pay for this cruise & if so, what catergory did you pay for? Past guest stautus or amount paid in the past has nothing to do with upgrades. You get what you paid for. megansdad1 Posted August 22, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2006 i must be missing something here. You paid for a room on deck one and that is what you are receiving. Now you are mad at Carnival because they won't give you an upgrade. I would just relaxand have a great time on your cruise.

I don't think you get much sympathy in this thread. Why do you think you are entitled to a free handout just because you have sailed with them before? Want an upgrade? Pay for it. angel22230 Posted August 22, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Brenda, We have paid for all of the cruises we have cruised on. We paid for a guarantee inside and received Deck 1. TA was trying to help us have at least a better inside cabin on a higher level and was told that the deals we received in the past were nonrevenue and that is how they base the past guest locations on the ship. I dont know.....just puts a damper to think thats how they think of you. EngIce-What can't I do here? Im just needing advice.

You paid for either a 4A or a 6A, and you got... a 4A or a 6A. Exactly where is the problem? Why do you feel as though you are automatically "entitled" to something you didn't pay for? Do you expect to be upgraded to first class on an airline that you've flown on maybe 6 or 8 times? My take is if you really want a better cabin, then PAY FOR IT. Upgrades should be a pleasant surprise, and NOT an expectation.
ala-kat Posted August 22, 2006 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Never book less than you are willing to accept. There are no gaurantees with a gauantee except for what you booked for. Upgrades are not a given, just a possibility. Did the 'non-revenue' come from Carnival or your TA? Not the savviest in cruising, but never heard this one before. angel22230 Posted August 22, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Im not asking for a free handout. We paid for a guarantee. Maybe the ship is sold out. They could have said that instead of a nonrevenue customer. would have made me feel better.

ParrotRob Posted August 22, 2006 #12 Share Posted August 22, 2006 One more question - in all seriousness, this is not a dig - having never been in an inside cabin, what difference does it make if you are in an inside cabin on deck 1 or deck 6? - it's not like you have a better view from higher up. I can see if you have a window or a balcony, but an inside?

Ichellebereel Posted August 22, 2006 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Why blame Carnival? You get what you pay for. That's why I always pay for what I want not depending on a upgrade. When you get to the port and the ship is not full you can paid for an upgrade.

A ton of big businesses operate the same way. Credit card companies, banks, department stores, casinos, all do the same thing. They want to get as much revenue as possible. Some of my colleagues used to work for banks that has customer rating systems to determine what to do for a customer. If i am at a casino, who will they give a better room to, the guy who spend 60 dollars every week or a high roller. Both bring revenue but one will bring more, and the casino would be a fool not to recognize that.
DreDay Posted August 22, 2006 #18 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Angel- You have every right to be upset, warranted or not, and you have every right to vent it here...whether we like it or not. I don't understand why some seem to take it so personal when someone posts anything negative about Carnival. As far as the upgrade thing, I do have to agree that if you wanted an upgrade you should have paid for it. There is no guarantee that you would get an upgrade with a Guarantee. It should depend on when you booked and how full the ship is. It should not depend on whether you used CVP or TA though. Don't be too upset....it is still a cruise and I am sure you'll have a great time.

Mikel1733 Posted August 22, 2006 #22 Share Posted August 22, 2006 I've never heard the expression "Nonrevenue customer" before. Maybe thats your TA's companies term. We will be on our 8th sailing with Carnival in October this year. This cruise will mark our 1st upgrade from a 4A to a 4E. Its still an inside room, not the illusive Ocean View or even better Balcony. But I sure don't get upset about it. I can shell out more money and get exactly what I want. Don't be mad a Carnival when you get what you pay for. Don't order a hamburger if you want prime rib. Have a great cruise and don't sweat the small stuff.:)
Vidimom Posted August 22, 2006 #23 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Did your agent book you with CCL as a past guest? They were offering past guest rates with upgrades at booking. If you are sailing around Labor Day, good chance the ship is full and you will just have to make due. Look on the positive side, you will be on a cruise and not at work like the rest of us! You will also be closer to the exits at the ports since you have to go down to deck 3 when you get off the ship. Don't let the cabin mess up your vacation! Go and enjoy your trip. How much time do you really spend in the cabin anyway? BTW, a nonrevenue rate means they gave you the rock bottom price without any profit. Your agent might also inquire how much more it would costs to upgrade. Doesn't hurt to ask and if it's reasonable, bite the bullet and pay the difference or take the money you would spend for the upgrade and have a massage on the ship! ParrotRob Posted August 22, 2006 #25 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Angel- You have every right to be upset, warranted or not, and you have every right to vent it here...whether we like it or not. I don't understand why some seem to take it so personal when someone posts anything negative about Carnival. That's flat out ridiculous. I haven't seen a single person in this thread "taking it personal(ly)" that she posted something negative about Carnival. Every post I've seen has been critical of the entitlement mentality, period - independent of the fact that it was Carnival. This is akin to someone coming in here and saying "I can't believe it, I went to Ford and bought a Focus and man am I zarked off because they didn't give me a Mustang even though this is the third time I've bought a Ford." Come on, DreDay, let's be realistic, who in this thread has said one bit about it being Carnival specific?
