loveturtles Posted August 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Does anyone know if there are car rentals at the port of Miami & what sort of price range? After our cruise our flight does not leave from Fort Lauderdale until 9pm. so trying to come up with ideas of what to do for the day. Any Helpful thoughts on this.
PvtHoovie Posted August 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2006 We rented from Alamo this past March after our Victory cruise. When we got out of the whole customs area we were within sight of the free Alamo shuttle waiting for people. I know there were also a few more companies represented as well, but can't remember who. We were shuttled to over near the airport to the Alamo rental area. We rented a Dodge Durango for like $79 overnight. Prices will vary depending on what you're looking for. Hope that helps! DEL67 Posted August 23, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2006 There are no car rentals at the Port of Miami. However, most of the major agencies provide shuttles to their airport locations. If you do not want to go to the airport, I believe that Enterprise and Hertz have downtown locations that are only a short cab ride from the pier. The price depends on the time of year, but most car rentals in Florida are relatively reasonable and offer do not charge from dropping off at a different location. As to what to do before your flight, it depends on what you like. You could go to a Fort Lauderdale beach, visit South Beach, visit the FLL Science Museum, spend time in the Casino, walk around the Olas Boulevard area, etc. One thing I would suggest though is to head up to Fort Lauderdale by mid-afternoon because the traffic between Miami and Fort Lauderdale can be very bad, especially at rush hour. nealstuber Posted August 23, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Watch out for the local Hertz location. It's nice that the are literally 2 blocks from the port enterance - but the don't open till 9 or 10am and it takes the 1st shuttle some time to get show-up. Alamo is further but will get you on the road sooner. Would use the local Hertz for inbound though. That was great!
