St. Kitts stores open or closed on Sundays?

Just a question: we'll be in St. Kitts on Sunday, Sept. 24, and I've heard that this is a very religious island whose stores and shops will be closed on Sundays if there aren't many ships in port. Can anyone confirm or deny this from experience? I'd hate to miss out ... TIA!
