Hotel in Rome

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are interested in finding a hotel in Rome. I have seen a couple of postings on this sight for links to hotels in Rome, but I can't seem to find them now. If anyone can give me a link to a sight for hotels, apartments or b&bs it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

stressball, go to:

Venere.Com

The best website on accommodation for Rome and Italy, where you'll find Hotels, B&Bs, Apartments, Town House Suites, Residences and Farm Houses. There are prices, links to homepages, maps, reviews and a secure online booking system. Good luck.

Cheers

Hi

We, and a number of other Cruise Critic members on the Galaxy Transatlantic, stayed on in Rome at the Hotel Napoleon. One of the CC members, Elmel, had researched hotels in Rome for us and found this gem.

The Hotel Napoleon is a 4 star hotel with reasonable rates (I believe a double is 160 Euros and a triple, 180 Euros per night). Included in that rate is a full buffet breakfast which offered cereals, fresh fruit, fruit cocktail, yogurt, sweet rolls, dinner rolls, sliced meats and cheeses, omelettes (not made to order though), toast, juices, tea, coffee etc. The hotel restaurant offers great lunches and dinners at prices slightly lower than local area restaurants, and it offers glasses of dessert wine and biscotti with their compliments at the end of the dinner.

The hotel is tastefully furnished but is not glitzy. There is a terrific lounge for guests on the second floor - it has several sofas and comfortable chairs, a large TV and a computer with free access to email and the Internet. Guest rooms are air conditioned, clean and comfortable, and include a small bar fridge.

There is a Metro stop right out front of the hotel, a very pretty park across the street and an inexpensive grocery store nearby. Hotel staff were always helpful in getting taxis, providing directions to various sites, and recommending local restaurants.

We enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend the Hotel Napoleon. You can check out the hotel at its website: http://www.napoleon.it. I was corresponding with Mr. Domenico Nelli, the Assistant Manager. If you're interested, you can contact him directly at infobook@napoleon.it

Bev,

Thanks for the recommendation.

I looked at the website and prices have gone up since your visit. A standard room for two is 250 Euro's (about $310.) and a triple is 290 Euros(about $360).

Jane,

I went to Napoleon's web site and noticed the rack rates you mention above. However, if you go to the actual booking link and special offers link, you find some significant differences. Ex. a standard room for 3 nights in June, 2005 was quoted at 155 Euros and included an airport pickup.

Our relatives usually stay at the Hotel Napoleon in Rome also. It is really nice but somewhat costly. In mid-July we stayed at Hotel Pace Elvezia on Via IV Novembre, 104 (Piazza Venezia) in Rome. Their phone # is 39 06 6795105 and their fax is 39 06 6791044. Their email is mail@leonardihotels.com. Friends of ours had stayed there in January and recommended it. It is not as upscale as the Hotel Napoleon but is perfectly adequate and nicely located. It is a 5 minute walk (about 3 blocks) from the Trevi Fountain and about 2 blocks from the monument of Victor Emmanuel ("wedding cake" monument) in the other direction. It has a rooftop terrace where it is nice to sip wine and watch the sunset over Rome. You can also see the Colosseum in the distance (about a 10 minute walk). It is a fairly large hotel (by Rome standards), and there are 2 elevators to reach the rooms. The breakfast is the typical buffet with cappucino, cereals, rolls, danish, etc as well as sliced meats and cheeses. The only downside to the hotel that I saw was that the first evening there our air conditioner malfunctioned. However, we changed to a room next door and it was fine. (They did give us a discount for the first night after we asked.) The beds are typical of Rome. They are twin beds (that could be combined to make one large bed.) We found typically that one was fairly soft and one was quite hard. The hotel was clean though and nice by European standards. I believe that the rate was about 120 euros per night. Unfortunately, there were no safes in the room. Safe deposit box-style safes were available at the front desk but they charged 3 euros per day, which is fairly unusual, but the hotel rate was reasonable. Also, they charged 2 euros for 15 minutes of internet time. It is wiser to just go to internet cafes instead where 2 euros would purchase at least 30 minutes of internet. I hope this helps. Good luck in your hotel search!

Kelly G.A. - thanks so much for that info on your hotel. Unfortunately, I checked them out and their rates have gone up according to what's written on their website. All the same, I've emailed them for a quote and am hoping to hear from them soon.

Thanks again!

Hi there,

I don't know if this helps but we are booked at the Hotel Modigliani for 3 nights in a triple for 440euros which includes VAT and breakfast. It is in a good area and I found it in Frommers (or Fodors) We will be there prior to our Royal 8/11 sailing. Jenny

We used the Hotel Dei Borgononi. It was a great location about midway between Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps. Easy walking distance to everywhere. the only problem we had was that the first room assigned to us didn't have a properly working air conditioner. But they switched us and after that we had a great stay. Good breakfast also.

Hello,

I stayed at the Pace Elvezia last November. (non-cruise, Italy vacation). If you can get that hotel for $120 EURO, booked it !! The hotel (other than the rooftop terrace which is awsome) is nothing special; however, its location is incredible...... As mentioned, you can walk to most of the major Rome attractions and the neighborhood seemed safe. The only time we needed to buy transportation was the day we visited the Vatican and Via Condotti since they are a little distance from the hotel. The awsome thing is that you can walk to the Coleseum, Forum, Trevi, Pantheon, Spanish Steps during the day for touring and then re-visit for an evening stroll at night and each of these places looks remarkably different. Just made our Rome stay more special to see these places both at day and at night. The Trevi and Forum are a MUST for evening visits but as I have said everything is amazing to be seen at night. There are some descent restruants nearby. Some of the best Pizza that we ate in Italy was in a piazza just around the corner from the hotel. (sorry cant remember the name).
