Nightlife on Celebrity

Hi all -

I'm traveling on Celebrity for the first time in November. Can you tell me a little about what the nightlife is like? I'm not a huge party person but do enjoy dancing and hope there are things to do later into the night.

IMO, the answer will vary, depending upon age, how late one usually stays up, and potentially whether you live in a urban centre or smaller town.

As a gross generaliziation, a 60+'s plus person whom lives in a small town and usually goes to bed by 10:00, may find X nightlife amazing!

Similarily, a 20-30 urban weekender, who used to being out till 5:00 am will

find it sleepy and tame. (lol)

Gross generaliziation's aside, In my exp on Connie and Millie X's nightlife will be considered tame in comparison to both Easycruise and Carnival, but rockin' in comparison to HAL and the likes of Seabourne.

In Europe specifically, younger couples are on X, so it's happening well into 2:00 and 3:00 am, but in the Carribean, X may attract an older pax,

so not much is happening after 1:00 am.

Hope this helps...

Thank you! To clarify, I am 29 and traveling with others that range from 27 - 65. I generally get to bed at 10:00pm so can be considered 60 :). But I'd love to stay out to about 1:00am a couple of nights. I guess I was just looking to see if there was ANYTHING that goes on after 11:00 on the ships. At least there will be with our group of 11!

I have enjoyed the best quality dance (Top 40) bands on X of any of the lines. That being said, the two that stand out the most were on Infinity and Mercury and both lounges were consistently dead, with a dozen or so in there by midnight.

On Zenith and Horizon MANY years ago,the discos were hopping, but that was in the 90s.

I always feel sorry for the bands that are so very talented and trying to keep the energy up while playing to an empty room.

I am on the 11/23 Century sailing as well with a group of friends and family. I think that since it is a holiday sailing, the nightlife will rise to the occasion.

We will be on our sixth X cruise (Dec.21 on Century). There are some younger people dancing in the discos on the top levels. The lounge outside the dining room is always filled with a subdued, older crowd, and very quiet. The casinos are ussually lively in the evenings. We do not care for the nightly shows in the big theater but have found good folk music in the Cova Cafe, classical in the atrium area, and more rock and urban in the "discos". We are so boring we actually walk the deck at night! Enjoy your cruise.

It's available but not well utilized by the silver-hair set. If you're bringing your own group of 11, you can have your own private party every night. We had tons of fun with just a few of us (young couples and singles) but for a single person or single couple....well, not much going on. We liked it because it was like going out to a good dinner, then dancing and some drinks, but no driving home or worrying about babysitters. My urban single SIL thought it was pretty dead though.

My Avatar says it all. We like this aspect of Celebrity above the rest. Every day we go to the Rendezvous for pre-dinner dancing. Right after dinner we have a choice of two bands, a duo for the 2nd seating pre-dinner dancing or another lounge depending on the ship for the band. Dancing ends during the main show but resumes right after. ... a little gambling at the casino, perhaps the DJ later... and my body clock says lights out at 11.. Beyond that time period others will have to advise.:D

On our four Summit cruises we've had mixed quality in terms of the dance band. The best were our first x cruise in 2004 and our most recent last March. I'm speaking of the party band that plays the pool in the afternoons and the upper lounge at night. There is also a duo that plays one of the lower lounges in the evening, but plays a more mature music.

We also enjoy the guitar player who plays the aft outdoor lounge area in the late afternoon and evenings. These players have ranged from pretty good to great on our cruises, and usually play acoustic rock and pop tunes. There is a piano player in Micheal's club each night. These players usually play "old standards" and such early in the evenings and pop music, and sometimes acoustical guitar, later at night - usually until just before midnight.

And finally, there is the disco that plays in between party band sets in the evening and late at night. While some of these sets are OK, we've found they usually play more towards a younger crowd that us, and we're not too old (just barely 50 now). I've been surprised to see that on some nights the disco player had nearly cleared out the lounge by starting loud hip-hop music that is clearly a bit young for the bulk of the crowd - would have done much better with disco and other 70's to 80's (even 90's) dance music.

There are also the shows - but I'm not a big fan of cruise ship stage shows - I much prefer the lounge music.

With a group of 11 you will be able to make your own party. Some nites are better than others. I know the pool deck party they have one night is usually fun...Lots of dancing... and the casino is fairly lively. the disco goes late but it really depends on the passangers on your particular cruise how lively it gets.
