Marseille Port to Train Station?

Hi

Once I get off the ship in Marseille, how do I get to the main station there (St. Charles)? Can someone provide walking directions? or must we take a taxi due to the distance from the ship? Is there a shuttle from the ship to somewhere? I've read about a shuttle but what's that about?

Most of the ships do offer a shuttle that will take you to the Vieux Port (old port). From there, its an easy 4 block walk to the station. If there are taxis at the pier willing to take you to the station, and you have 4, it probably would cost about the same as the shuttle (most lines charge $5 per person). There is an information booth at the old port and there used to be city maps posted on kiosks in the same area.
