Stay on top of those MBNA certificates!!!

My 125,000 points certificates were sent in to Wichita via registered mail-after I made copies. :)

I confirmed the RCCL received them, not only per the registered mail, but over the phone via Crown & Anchor customer service. I was happy!

I was noticing that time after time, I checked my C&A to see if the balance had been fufilled via the certificates, it hadn't. I was nervous.

Now I am 10 days out before the payment deadline and at risk of losing my reservation. Now I'm feeling nauseated. :(

I'm sure, in the end, that C & A will solve this, as there are many wonderful customer service representatives that they employ. But had I not been watching out for this, I might have lost an entire cruise! Now I'll just keep praying that they didn't "lose" my certificates (and if so, that they'll accept the photo-copies!)!

Keep watching those MBNA certificates fellow cruisers! Keep on top of them until they are fully applied, or you might end up like me with 10 days left and in a complete panic!

If I am understanding your post correctly, you sent in MBNA certificates to pay off the balance owed on your cruise. Is that correct? I wasn't aware that you could do this. Perhaps someone else on this Board and confirm this. I thought they were only good for onboard credit, upgrades, free cruises, and some items that are for sale.

It took a long time for mine to be applied. And then after it was all said and done, they credited my deposit back to my credit card......go figure. Oh well.......at least it was applied but had they not credited my account I would have been darn near completely paid off. Needless to say, with a new business and all.....cash flow is not what is used to be!

Mohendry, this is the ONLY way you can do it. You book a cruise FIRST-so as of that moment, you have an "outstanding balance".

You send in your MBNA certificates to RCI.

Once RCI processes your certificates, your balance disappears, as it is fufilled by the certificates.

Hope this helps. :D

P.S. The certificates I sent in were for a free cruise for 2=125,000 points

What level of stateroom were you able to book in return for the 125K point voucher? We are quickly approaching this level, and find oursleves confused by the amended language on the website. The program now refers to "lowest available outisde stateroom" or something like that.

What were you able to pay for using the voucher?

Thanks for an update on the program.

Lightsluvr, I am unable to help you here...as I booked my room some time ago, the rules were different and without discussing money, we paid to upgrade the room.

You can upgrade with no problem.

We just redeemed one, and were disapointed that we didn't get what we'd heard others get in the past.

What they did give us was the full value of the best class standard oceanview stateroom including taxes at the time the certificate is redeemed.

That was nice, but we'd heard of folks getting up to the full max value ($1250 per person) towards their cruise fare when upgrading regardless of the price of an outside stateroom.

Oh well, it wasn't that bad a deal, just not as good as I thought, and not as good as others said they got a year or so ago.

i hope some creative people find the way to get around the new wording on the cert's- and hoping they will inform the rest of us........:)

Please do, as it took me 16 months to rack up the points, and we're already started on the next 125,000 point certificates (only 14 months to go!;) ). If they start changing the rules, I might consider using a card that gets me free BA miles instead!:p

You are sooo correct here...

Paying for the upgrade was a small price to pay, but we had also heard of those who got the fully $2500 credit towards WHATEVER they booked, and I was highly disappointed at how MBNA (not RCCL by the way!) reacted to amount of people that took advantage of what was a nicer offer.

More disappointed because I know very well how much MBNA rakes in with fees from the vendors where we spent the money.

enjoy.

i've got 112,000 or so already, should be at 125,000 by year end or sooner (we cruise in november, and i plan to take large cash advances in the casino that will register as purchases on the stateroom account, good for double points). will apply the "free" cruise toward a booking we have in 2008 for the adventure of the seas--we'll see what we get, value-wise.

I booked through a TA and sent the coupons in to the C&A(about 4 weeks ago). Is there a way on line to see if you have the onboard credit or do you have to call to verify the coupons have been processed?

I am cruising in November and it there are any issues I would like to get them worked out ahead of time. :)

If you redeemed vouchers for onboard credit, you would need to call RCL (or TA if applicable) to verify that the credit has been posted. You will not find OBCs on your "my cruises" account on rcl.com. If, on the other hand, you applied vouchers towards an upgrade or free cruise, you WILL be able to see the credit in your "my cruises" account on rcl.com The amount charged will reflect the discounted amount... it is not listed as a seperate line item.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if you have only enough points for the 4 day cruise but you would like to go seven days can you pay the difference? I thought I read where you can get up to $500.00 off a cruise at this level? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to use the points early next year and think a 4 day is way to short. Thanks for all the interesting reading too! I'm still a bit confused! Thanks for your help! :-)

Thanks for the reply I guess that answers one of my question about the taxes and fees. Do you have to go through and use one of Royal Caribbean travel agents? Can you use these points towards a CA cruise? So if I use the 50,000 points for the cruise with the other points left over can I get the $50 vouchers too? As you can tell I'm new to using the points and would ike to get as far with them as I can? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the help and this wonderful baord!

I used BOTH my 125,000 points for a free cruise and an addition 5,000 points for a $50 onboard credit for the same cruise and it worked just fine. I don't believe they'll be changing the rules on that, at least I hope not!:)

So if I use the 50,000 points for the cruise with the other points left over can I get the $50 vouchers too?

You need to read the terms and conditions info. It lists a phone number to call and make your reservation if you are using points for a free cruise or upgrade cabin. I don't think that it matters who you book with if you are just redeeming points for OBC.
