Hawkeye75 Posted September 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2006 I booked my flight with RCI...now I'm assuming the seats will be coach. Is it possible to pay for an upgrade assuming there is one available? Thanks
Erie Dave Posted September 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2006 Yes you can. First you have to contact RCI and request "custom air" which is I think $75 per ticket, then you pay the difference to upgrade if the upgrade is available. Because the cruise line buys bulk air tickets, the upgrade charge is usually huge! You can probably cancel the flight portion of your cruise if you are outside of the penalty time, and book the air you want for much less if you are looking for upgraded flights. Calicruisefamily Posted September 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 12, 2006 We booked our air with RC last year and what we didn't know is that if we wanted to sit together we had to call the airline once RC gave us the flight number. We found out the hard way at the airport. Cali Voyager W. Caribbean 12/16/06 "Our First AFT 1688" Voyager E. Caribbean 11/05 S.S. Hawkeye75 Posted September 12, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted September 12, 2006 Thanks for the heads up! When do you normally get information about you're flight before you're actual flight date?
SheltieLady Posted September 12, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 12, 2006 You can call custom air and upgrade your seats we did and had them book First Class air. We paid $50.00 per person plus the additional airfare. It was $900 for both of us cheaper than the airline. If you cruise in out of Europe I believe they charge $75.00 per person. cb at sea Posted September 12, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 12, 2006 It's ever so much easier to book your own flights, rather than rely on RCI to do it! That way, you can pick the times and seats that you want--all without paying extra for the priveledge!!! We used RCI's service the 1st time we cruised--a 2 1/2 hour trip turned into 4 hours because of routing and layovers!!! Never again! Why would I want to spend more time traveling--and paying extra to do so?
Erie Dave Posted September 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 12, 2006 Thanks for the heads up! When do you normally get information about you're flight before you're actual flight date? You usually get your final flight info with your cruise docs. At that time, it will be too late to make any inexpensive changes. Check with your TA or whoever you booked with for the availability of what you are looking for. Once final payment is made, cancellations and changes can really cost you.
