mathewsman Posted September 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2006 Is it better to book your flights yourself or go through the cruise line? We have done custom air before through the cruise line and did not think it was that great.

mathewsman Posted September 13, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted September 13, 2006 Thank you. Have you ever had any trouble getting off the ship in time to meet your flight and how far in advance of the cruise do you book and pay for it?
Leela Posted September 13, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2006 One tip: if you book your own, make sure your return flight is booked for noon or later. I've only come close once to missing a flight this way, and it was because there were extreme circumstances on the freeways that day. I had a 1:00pm flight and although we got off the ship at 10:30am, it was 12:15pm before we arrived at the airport due to a combination of construction and a truck that overturned. But me & my luggage made it, so it all worked out well in the end.
johninwpa Posted September 13, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2006 When flying we try to arrive a day early and stay a few days after. More relaxing and less hectic. We find booking our own flights are easier and cheaper.
Longboysfan Posted September 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2006 A good way to see the flights and who is going - use Orbitz then book through the airline directly. But always look at the prices and schedules.
bbro Posted September 14, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 14, 2006 We've found if you book through the cruise line you can sometime get awkward times and also stop overs. You don't always get the most convenient times that you would if you booked yourself. But I also agree that to reduce stress come in a day early if possible and book an afternoon flight out. Keep in mind the next group of passengers are starting to get on board by 11-11:30. They'll make sure you're off the ship as early as possible.
