Tulum or Caverns/shopping

We just returned from a 5-day cruise on RCCL's Enchantment and went to Tulum, though not through a ship excursion. We actually got there and back totally on our own! I've always wanted to see it because it's so picturesque, in a gorgeous location. One big drawback though, that in July, IT IS HOT. Horribly hot. Sweat-draining, soaked-through, god-I-wish-we'd-cruised-to-Alaska-HOT. I can't say I regret making the effort, because it is unique and everything I'd envisioned. If it had been cooler, I would have spent more time on the site and read all the placards. I got some postcard quality pictures, which always makes me happy. But the entire time (maybe an hour) we spent in the ruins area, I was just a little distracted by sweat pouring down me, wondering how soon we could get back to the air-conditioned bookstore where they sold cold water.

Sorry I can't give you a comparison of the two tours, but just keep the heat in mind when you make your decision!
