Kauai-transportation to Poipu Beach??

Interested if there is any public transpotation (a bus?) from port to Poipu Beach or would we need to take a taxi??

If we took a taxi, what would be the aprox. cost one-way??

 

We will only be in Kauai about 5 hours or so(11am to 5pm), so our choices on what to do to see any of the island are very limited. Really disappointed about Fern Grotto closure...

 

Info on what we could even walk to from port...

No public transportation to Poipu. Best choice would be to rent a car. Taxi would be cost-prohibitive (think approx. $30-40/one way). I'm not sure why people are so fixated on the Fern Grotto - really think that it's one of the biggest tourist traps in Hawaii.

 

Kalapaki Beach is walking distance from the dock - but you have to walk around 10 minutes or so through an industrial area to get there. It's not a bad beach though - and the Marriott is right there if you want to get lunch or drinks (but no drinking on the beach!)
