I don't know about Verizon but I was recently in Russia on a riverboat cruise for two weeks and was able to use my Cingular cell phone from just about everywhere, even on rivers or in small villages. It costs about $6 to turn on international roaming and then depending on where you are in the world, it's $.99 or $4.99/minute. The Caribbean is $.99/min. It couldn't have been easier or more convenient.
