JotWorld Posted October 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2006 Just Released: HAWAII CIVIL DEFENSE SPOKESMAN SAYS 95 PERCENT OF OAHU IS WITHOUT POWER AFTER MASSIVE 6.3-MAGINTUDE EARTHQUAKE STRIKES OFF HILO Our Thoughts & Prayers are with them All, & Our Ships over there, Island, etc!:( Bill ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "I'm watching CNN right now, they're showing a live feed from a local Hawaii TV station. They're saying that the quake has been upgraded to a 6.6 (which doesn't sound like a big difference until you realize that a 7.0 is 10 times bigger than a 6.0). Right now they're just reporting injuries, no fatalities, and they are not issuing a tsunami warning. Officials are asking people to stay off the phones unless it's an emergency to keep the lines clear, so give your friends there a few more hours at least before you start to worry. Jim, thanks for the update on the Zaandam--sounds like nobody was hurt, that's great news! Hopefully everyone on Island Princess is OK too. Everything looks calm on the webcam. FYI, they're also reporting that Honolulu Airport is closed right now for everything other than inbound flights. No outbound flights." __________________ (Per)Beth
dlovalvo Posted October 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2006 How can we find out if the Island Princess has been effected? I have a very good friend that works on the ship...and I'm worried sick! Danielle
wrp96 Posted October 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 15, 2006 If you go to the Holland America board and look for the thread dealing with the Voyager of the Spammed, there are people posting live from the Zaandam which was in Kona today and they felt the earthquake on the ship. Apparently, Island Princess is docked in Hilo today so they probably felt it as well.
