advantages to booking future cruise while onboard?

We are sailing on the Rhapsody on Nov 5-11. I've noticed from reading the boards here that some people book their next cruise while still onboard. What's the advantage to this?? Are there extra discounts offered to do this?

Best available cabins/price. An onboard credit of $50-$200 depending on the length of the future cruise. Arrive early. When we were on the Splendour in Dec we waited and waited and waited. We finally gave up. Heck, we were supposed to be on vacation.

No, you do not get an additional discount off the cruise price for booking onboard. Yes, you do get onboard credit (based on length of cruise you are booking) for the new cruise.

 

You do get the best available rates; you do have to pay the usual deposit on the spot.

The only real advantage is the on-board credit that you will get to use on the future cruise. If you book a 7 day cruise you will get a credit of $100 per cabin and you will get $200 per cabin for a cruise 10 days or longer. You get no discounts on the price of the future cruise. You will have to pay the standard deposit of $250 per person for a 7 day cruise or $450 per person for a longer cruise when you book. Many people feel that it is worthwhile to pay the deposit now to get the on-board credit. You have to book a specific cruise but you can change the booking to a different cruise at a later date. As long as the original booking number is maintained, the on-board credit will be switched to the new cruise. If you booked your current cruise with a travel agent, the future booking that you made on board will revert to the same agent unless you specify otherwise.
