ymelancon Posted July 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2004 To all you seasoned cruisers out there, I'm going on a cruise in August with a broken right foot! It's healing, but I'm still wearing a surgical shoe. There goes the dancing! Outside of sitting at the bar with a drink in my hand -- what can a girl do to enjoy herself??? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. :(
GoinCruisin Posted July 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2004 You can sit by the pool with a drink in your hand, sit in the casino with a drink in your hand, sit in the shows with a drink in your hand, eat with a drink in your hand, go to the artshows, with a drink in your hand, play bingo with a drink in your hand.... starting to get the point? LOL... you can "sit" just about anywhere... no foot required :D Now, getting around will be another issue... as the ships are large and you will probably do alot of walking, but you can do anything you want... have a great time and hope your foot heals soon... ymelancon Posted July 15, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted July 15, 2004 I haven't stopped laughing since I read your reply. You've made me feel alot better. Thanks so much for the advice!
GoinCruisin Posted July 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2004 You would only have trouble on the ship if you had a broken ars-bone... and even then, you would probably still have plenty of fun, LOL... I hope your foot heals enough for you to get to dance a bit! Take care and have fun!
chipperberg Posted July 15, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2004 I have gone on a cruise after breaking my foot, with all of those drinks in your hand, just remember your foot is still broken, even though you will no longer be feeling your foot. And don't forget to play the sympathy card and have some men buy you drinks. :)
dotcruiser Posted July 15, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 15, 2004 All is NOT lost. You can certainly sit around the piano bar and sing to the tunes and drink....or act pathetic when you go to the buffets and act helpless and maybe some handsome stranger will assist you and you can lean on his arm and gaze into his eyes.....have fun and go slow. Tropicalconcrete Posted July 15, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2004 And I'm sure you could find things to do laying down :0 with a drink in your hand!!! LOL. Just enjoy and us your imagination!
bthorn1108 Posted July 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2004 I went on a cruise 3 weeks after breaking my foot. My orthopedic put an air cast on for me, which I was able to remove so that I could go swimming. Maybe you could ask your doctor about one of these casts. Just be fore warned that walking in sand, while it may not seem like big deal, will cause you more pain later. When I asked the doctor about that, on my return, he said it was because the sand gives way under your body weight.
SallyMay Posted July 16, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 16, 2004 You could get on the dance floor and just move your top half. ;) Just don't let anyone twirl or dip you. Go have fun and let us know how it went.
valentina1209 Posted July 16, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 16, 2004 add me to the list of those who have cruised with a broken foot. It certainly didn't damper my fun! I agree with the previous poster about not walking on the beach...I learned the hard way that even with the special boot on, the bumpy surface of the sand caused lots of pain. In addition to all the things previously mentioned, I enjoyed soaking in the jacuzzi (on many shops, there's a "secret" jacuzzi in the spa area that's virtually deserted). ymelancon Posted July 16, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted July 16, 2004 Thanks to you all for the advice and words of wisdom. I definitely intend on having a good time -- despite my foot! Will let you know how I made out when I get back!!! Till then . . .
Rustynail Posted July 16, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 16, 2004 Sit by the pool and drool over all those hunks in speedo's and thongs in the pool. Make sure you wake up from your dream in time for dinner. lol
tjohn159d Posted July 16, 2004 #13 Share Posted July 16, 2004 Get an eye patch and a stuffed shoulder parrott. Learn how to say "Ayyyye Matey!". :D I guess you will be wearing a string bikini  to pool side unless you want to stretch your suit over the cast. Like the others said have fun and enjoy your druise. One thing though if you find yourself with the leg hurting to much you may want to ask the prusers desk or cabin steward if there are any wheelchairs available for use.
