San Juan Airport Transportation

My daughter & I are cruising on AOS next Easter break in April 07. We are going to San Juan a day early and staying at the San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino Hotel (thank goodness for Marriott points, free night stay). Has anyone stayed at that hotel and do they provide transportation from the airport? If not, is the best way to take a local taxi from the airport to hotel or should I book a transfer with RCCL? I didn't book our air reservations with them. I just want to make sure we don't get taken advantage of by the local taxi cabs to the hotel and have read some reviews on how dangerous some of the drivers are. Can anyone help us out with your experiences? Thanks!

I can't say anything about the hotel, but we flew in the day of our cruise on the Destiny. We took the taxi, they have set rates. Find the web site for the airport and it will give the rates for each area of San Juan.

The way it work was when you go out to the area for the taxi's. There will be someone standing out in the pick up area. They will ask where you want to go and assign a cab to take you there. It was a piece of cake for us..

Most people will not speak English, but there normally is a few that speak enough to talk to you.The people that work with the tourist normally speak anough to be understood.. We didn't find it to be a problem for us.

Have fun...

Our taxi driver was fine, spoke beautiful english and gave us some history of the island and pointed out some specific points of interest. He drove fine, but then again I have taken taxis in Rome, Rio and NYC and he was no worse, ;)

When we got off of the Golden Princess last year at the pier near Old San Juan, 4 of us with about 6-8 pieces of luggage, it was about $35 with tip I believe. I think they have set rates and it is based on # of passengers and pieces of luggage.

When you are checking out of the hotel, we stayed there last year and loved it, try to go and pay your bill a little early. There was a large amount of cruise passengers checking out and checking in at about 11:30.

Only caution about the cab drivers, don't get in a taxi that has a smashed up front bumper area:eek: , we did and the driver was not a good one at all.

You're only choice if you are staying at a non-cruise booked hotel is to take a taxi. The RCCL shuttles can only be purchased separately if you are going from airport to pier or vice versa. They offer shuttles to the hotel only if you booked the hotel directly with them (and even then it is still better to take a taxi).
