Guarantee cabins and upgrade question

Is it true that if I book a guarantee that I won't know until checkin what cabin that I am in? I have read that people have booked a guarantee and then got upgraded a couple of weeks after they booked. How do they know that they have been upgraded if they don't get a cabin until check in? :confused: I'm confused (very easy to do:D )!

You may get your cabin assigned the day after you book, months or weeks before your cruise, and in rare situations not until you get to the pier.

 

You can check your pre-registration forms online until a cabin is assigned it will say GTY, Once assigned the cabin number will appear on your form.

Thank you Shoreguy. I am assuming this pre-registration is on NCL website, correct? This will be our first NCL cruise. I have cruised with RCI 2 times before, but have never had a guarantee. I am sooo looking forward to trying NCL. My sister has cruised with them before and says they are great!

Check with your TA. When you book a guarentee sometimes they will give you your upgrade when you book. Or it may come later. We have always gotten an assigned cabin by the time we made our final payment. Do not always get an upgrade, but usually do.

Correct - home page lower right click "Booked Guests Get Ready to Cruise"

 

Click Register online now, enter your 8 digit NCL booking number, ship, date, and name.

Is it possible that, after booking a GTY, NCL will assign you a cabin number then switch the cabin number again later?

I have heard of that happening. At least that has been posted here. Never happened to us in 8 cruises with NCL. We always book the lowest price cabin, usually on deck 4, as a guarentee and all but 1 time have gotten an upgrade. One upgrade has always been to deck 5. Two upgrades to deck 8, and one time to deck 9. The only time we did not get an upgrade was on the Spirit. That time we booked a guarentee for an inside cabin on deck 4 and that was what we got. The only drawback then was that it took an extra 30 seconds or so to get out on deck.

I booked 3 weeks ago lowest OV GTY cat D on the majesty (12/16/06) I recieved my edoc's today, I was upgraded to superior OV 926. I'm happy...Cliff

We general select our cabin at the time of booking and I have never selected a guarantee because we like mid ship and prefer to have cabins above and below as opposed to casinos, discos, pools, etc. So, if I book a Guarantee Balcony what should I expect. (I know that's a hard question, but I guess I want to know what was your best and not so best experience???)
