flexiblepony Posted November 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2006 Is there a possibility of encountering snakes on the tour to th Lamanai ruins? Just wonder if anyone has done the tour and saw such creatures.
Tarheelbelle Posted November 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2006 I was there 2 years ago in November and we saw NO snakes at the ruins. We did see a large tarantula, which our guide picked up and all of us petted it!

kmacht Posted November 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 6, 2006 Your in the jungle so the possibility of being near a snake is probably pretty good. That said, the chance of actually seeing one or having an encounter is pretty small. You do the tour in decent size groups and are usually making so much noise that it scares any animals away. We went on this excursion a few weeks ago on the 10/14 sailing of the NCL Dream. Our tour guide found and picked up both a tarantual and a baby boa constrictor for us to see. Both times it seemed that the creatures wanted nothing more than to try to get away from us. The guide had to chase the snake around for a good 15 minutes before he could even catch it. If he hadn't been looking for it while we were climbing the ruins there is no way we would have ever seen it or known it was there. If you stay with the group and stay on the main trails you won't have anything to worry about. Keith
alaskagirl Posted November 30, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 30, 2006 We stayed at Lamanai Outpost Lodge last Christmas for five days and only saw one tiny snake the entire time and it was on a guest's porch. The naturalist picked it up and we all checked it out. On our trips to the ruins we saw howler monkeys, a kinkajou and lots of fantastic bird life. The ruins are fantastic and I highly recommend the trip.
