Hi Madhouseinc,

I have a rubber footed cane tip that I just love. It gives me more stability than a regular cane and is not as cumbersome as the "quad-canes". Send me an email at iris at reily dot com and I will give you the information about it. It is call an Able Tripod cane tip. You may even be able to find them on the internet.

Good morning! Hope you will be my salvation! Carting my walker from Las Vegas to Florida is not my idea of wonderful. Have seen the footed canes even at the grocery store - just wish they had colorful ones. Went to a craft show yesterday and cannot tell you how many times someone had to pick it up for me! Tried to send you an email but got an error so I looked it up on the internet and found it. A question - can I use it with any of my canes? Love to use my funky ones - esp on a cruise.

I went to a heavy metal cane that was thicker and had thicker(wider) rubber tip. The difference was amazing. Also any of your canes you can sand, clean off well after sanding, then paint any funky way you want :). I have used a metal rustproofing paint as a base, then added embellishments etc then coated with polyurethane spray. You can get pretty creative using anything meant for metals and have found stuff intended for glass decoration worked well too. I am looking for a cup holder for my wheelchair right now lol. I am having a local lady sew me some like side saddlebags for the inside sides of my wheelchair. Like velcro closures for spot to hold money, sunglasses, etc just so I dont have to carry my purse everywhere. Maybe will have her make me a cover for back of my wheelchair that says please don't cut ahead of me at the elevator! hehe ya I have a wicked sense of humor lol.

On my last cruise I was able to get around at times with just a cane. I was in the disco one night trying to get to my daughter and this guy that had to be 6-4 was blocking the way. I just stood behind him and said in my sweetest voice "move or I am going to hit you with my cane" he just WHIRRRRLED around with a scowl, then looked down at my 5-2 , laughed and escorted me to where my daughter was. (As I have said before, I think the younger ones are much nicer regarding hcs)

Below is what I found on the interest - looks pretty cool.

Hi Jeri,

I'm glad you were able to find the rubber cane tip on the internet. There is one company that sells all four sizes. If your canes are not all the standard 3/4" you may need to purchase more than one size. Do measure before you order one. Great photo of the cane tip by the way.

I too have quite a few canes, and one of them had to have the 1" base. It is a red chestnut cane with some bumps where little branches were removed. Everyone LOVES that cane. Another one required the 5/8" as it was very narrow at the base. A lot of very colorful ajustable canes may need that smaller size. Just take the cane tip off and measure the diameter to be sure you order the correct size.

I got tired of taking one tip off and putting it on another cane, so I went ahead and got one for each of my canes. I figure if you have to use one, you might as well have fun with it! My next cane is going to be acrylic - I just haven't decided on the color yet.

I've been using the Able Tripod tips for almost 3 years and really don't know what I would do without them. I wrote a review about them on the Amazon site.

Another suggestion: I know you can rent scooters and wheelchairs so it may also be possible to rent a walker. That way you could have it delivered to the ship and leave it there when the cruise is over. Do a search of the disabled forums for "Scooter Rentals" It was a thread that was active last February. There may be phone numbers listed there.

If you want to e-mail me try irisfreily at yahoo dot com. (leaving out the spaces):)

When is your cruise? Have a great day!

Get a clear cane and fill it with whatever the occ. calls for

BTW - you should get the clear cane - they have inserts for them - personally, I would fill it with all kinds of funky stuff.

QVC, to celebrate it 20th birthday, "reserved" the entire ship for their customers. We have to pay for it, but getting some really neat stuff so I have been told at least. We leave on January 7th next year for a 7 day cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. Sooo excited.

In another area of CC, ask a cruise question, I found something that made me rather nervous. I can't remember the name of the disorder, but I guess some people have problems with walking after the cruise is over. I keep wondering if it could happen after just 2 days at sea - would hate to have ports messed up for me.
