Challenges, Dares, Trivia and Secret Doors??

Hi All,

I remember reading somewhere about a secret door on ships and was wondering if anyone can give me any clues as to where this door is on the pacific sun.

I am sailing with my soccer team on the Pacific Sun beach bonanza cruise this Friday Nov 10th 2006( verrrry excited now).

I have been compiling a list on possible challenges, trivia questions. ect for each cabin team in our group to complete. So if any of cruise regulars can help me out with any to add to my list below or if any of them are not very suitable please drop me a post here.

I am very interested if any one can help with scavenger hunt type items that could be collected at the ports we stop at, as I am not very familiar with the islands.

(Ports are: Isle of Pines, Yasawa-I-Rara, Suva, Dravuni Island, Vila and Lifou.)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Shaggyhead

Here is a list of some of my current ideas.

- Find lifeboat embarkation station number 5 (pls photograph one or more of your team members at this point)

- Get someone outside of our group to swap dinner table seats for one at sea dinner.

- Get a photo of a towel rabbit.

- What is the head librarian’s name?

- Attend and participate "walk a mile" (photographic evidence required)

- Find the secret door.

- How long are the stabilizers (in feet) on the Pacific Sun?

- Send someone in our group a flower anonymously.

- Take a strange item to Lost and Found.

- Get a different team member to collect the strange item 1 day later.

- What was the shooter of the day on Nov 12th?

- What was the cocktail of the day on Nov 20th?

- What was the colour of first tickets issued for tenders at Dravuni Island?

- What time does the medical centre open on sea days?

- What time was sunrise on Nov 14th?

- What was the cocktail pianist's name?

- How many "Pacific Sun Dancers" are there?

- What is a "Body Blitz"?

- What time does turtle cove open on sea days?

- Borrow a library book.

- Paint a t-shirt.

- Walk through the casino with toilet paper hanging from your skirt or shorts.

- Do a free seminar at the Lotus Spa (then do a demonstration of what you learnt for the rest of the group)

- Leave a post-it note trail with directions written on each post-it note on where to find the next post-it (minimum of 20 post-its)

- Go to the duty free shop wearing two different non-matching shoes.

- Go for a swim with one half or all of your swimmers inside out.

Hi shaggy head! I have just come back from Pacific sun and by accident i noticed some people entering a door that wasnt visable as a door from outside so I geuss this is the secret door you are after. but if I tell you it wont be a secret will it ?Do you want just clues or the answer?

Closest I can think of to a secret door on Pacific Sun is the cirular stairway that runs between the Speak Easy Bar (on Atlantic Deck) and the Casino on the Promenade Deck.

I like the sound of those challenges - and none of them seem too outragous that they'll cause problems with the new security measures on the P&O ships.

Here's a couple more suggestions;

What was the first finished item at the Fruit/Vegetable carving display.

What was the highest priced piece of Art sold at the Art Auctions.

Hi cruiser, firstly, I hope you and your team have a great cruise.

most of the things you are suggesting are available in the daily that is delivered to your cabin....e.g. Doctors hours, drinks of the day, who is piano player etc.

boards displayed will tell you how many dancers there are ,plus the singers. also the cruise staff.

I don't know anything about a secret door !!!

I also hope that things have calmed down in Fiji by the time you reach there.

kindest regards, Lorraine:) :)

Hi Icemaiden,

I think if you could please just give me some clues would be best, then I can let you know when we get back if we found it or not . he he he.

Hi Skyrules,

Thanks heaps for the suggestions.

If you think of any more please let me know.

Gotta keep the team busy for 2 weeks so the more the better.

All I remembered about the secret door is that someone posted that any door that dose not say staff only or such you are allowed to access. Obviously tho we don't want to do anything that may get us into trouble with security either.

Cheers

what a great idea - sounds like fun! What about collecting foreign coins - one from each port? a photo with a local from each port - maybe one that meets a different criteria each port age, gender etc hope you have a great time:)

Now now Suey... Don't get too many ideas!!!

BTW the entertainment staff (now read dancers!!) also run scavenger hunt competitions. A hint for those who want to participate take some post it notes and I can't remember some of the other strange things they asked for (anybody else got some hints for our cruise family!).

I remember the old days when they use to run a competition in the lounge where you were told to bring as much as you could with you. You could tell those who had cruised before because they almost literally brought everything in their cabin including the ladder & a life jacket. Then the cruise staff would announce a particular item and a member of your team had to take it to the stage. Was very entertaining and they also had a cross dressing competition for a beauty competition where one male member of each team had to dress up and then parade around on the stage. Oh, those were the days!!!

Cheers,

Chaz:)

hey Chaz,i think you were on one of my cruises! we took the ladder, life jacket, g string, lipstick, you name it, we packed a suitcase!! Didn't win cos others had more! What fun!

I remember if you didn't have it you could grab it off someone coming back from the stage from collecting their points and run up with it. They had asked for false teeth and an old man was walking back with his wives teeth in hand and one of the guys in our group grabbed them off him and ran!! It was such a laugh!!

It's possible we may have been on a cruise together but they use to run this "competition" every cruise but I guess in the days of litigation it has been deemed too dangerous or maybe the staff just got sick of cleaning up the mess. The ad for it in the Daily newsletter was fairly non descript as well if I remember correctly. Alot of people didn't know what they were letting themselves in for.

I remember one time without even thinking when they said false teeth I grabbed my Mum's almost out of her mouth and was up on that stage quick smart. I don't know who was the most surprised Mum or me!

Cheers,

Chaz:)

Sounds like a lot of fun to me. Shame they don't do it anymore. Shaggyhead, you & your team are gonna have a ball. Please make sure you come back on here afterwards & tell us all about it & post some pics.

I know my kids went on a scavenger hunt & were asked to find thigs like a passenger who was born in a certain country or a passenger who had been on at least (certain number) of cruises. I must admit though, I know nothing about a secret door.

I think it may be the one from te piano bar to the casino. the circular one mentioned, although we did use it and didnt know it was a secret!!!

Not sure that it's secret, but it's not widely known about. It has us puzzled for awhile. Most nights on Sun we'd have a post-show cocktail in the Speak Easy, and at one point we noticed people coming down these stairs which until then we had thought were just for decoration. In the end curiousity got the better of us and we went up them and were suprised to emerge into the Casino.

Hey everyone!!

Thanks so much for all your ideas and please please keep them coming.

Also thanks for the info on the secret door too.

I'll be sure to pop back on my return and let you all know how things went.

Just a little concerned about this travel warning at the moment. I guess P & O will just skip Suva if there are any concerns. Does anyone know what P & O's policys are on these thing?

cheers

If it's not safe, they won't go. Simple as that. The call at Suva would be be replaced by some other port, or just an extra day cruising. Dravuni and Yasawa-I-Rara would be considered dangerous so your calls there probably won't be affected.

  • 1 month later...

Shaggyhead,

Hope you and the soccer team had a great cruise back in November. I recalled your post about the secret door and was wondering did you locate it? If so, where was it? Also how did the team challenge go? It sounded like lots of fun and maybe something that P & O could embrace?

Maybe you have already reviewed your cruse and I might have missed it.:o

Cheers

CRUISING ALONG :)
