REXTER Posted November 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2006 We are going to be on first Holland America cruise on the Westerdam in Dec. We have been on other lines that when you dine for dinner in the lido you can wear shorts. However, reading the brochure with our documents it states dinner in the lido requires long pants and no T-shirts. Is this enforced ? Or can you wear a nice pair of shorts & polo shirt ? garydm Posted November 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2006 On our recent Statendam cruise, there was no enforcement of dress codes. One of our tablemates came to formal dinner in the main dining room in open shirt and a windbreaker. No one said a word and he had a very nice suit with him. In the Lido all was casual. Having said that, I always wore long pants and a polo shirt or other collared shirt in the Lido at night. You could probably get away with shorts, but would look out of place I would think. kryos Posted November 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2006 I honestly don't know about shorts ... because frankly, I never took notice ... but I know for a fact that tee-shirts are fine in the Lido for dinner. I've worn them there several times myself ... with jeans ... and not a word was said. In fact, I had plenty of company. I can't imagine anything would be said about shorts there either. The Lido IS the INFORMAL dining venue. It sees it's greatest number of patrons on formal nights ... people who just don't want to get all "gussied up" to eat dinner. So, what would be the point of requiring people to dress up to dine there? If they are gonna get dressed up, they might as well just go to the dining room. grannynurse Posted November 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 8, 2006 HAL's "know before you go" booklet requests that guests follow the dress code of no shorts, tank tops, etc in public rooms after 6pm. On the infrequent times we've eaten in the lido at dinner time however, we've noticed that not everyone adheres to this request. The dress code is supposed to be for the evening, not just the main dining room, and is for all public areas. I presume that if you eat in the Lido and then go to the show you are supposed to change clothes. Usually we've seen most people comply. Rare nimbex1970 Posted November 8, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 8, 2006 i simply bring a dress for dinner and husband wears slacks and a collard shirt, sometimes a tie, definately a suit and tie for formal..... but as said can wear shorts for the buffet. Not done HAL, but the dress code seems uiniversal. For women, not a day wear dress, just cocktail length, or a black skirt or dressy black pants and a dressy shirt with high heels..... flats if its your thing. The little black dress works as well as the black skirt, I just wear dinner dresses and change for night life, or stay in same. hubby wears kennith cole type pants(at kauffamns) with a matching collard shirt, or adds tie, seldome a sports coat for dinner on non formals, but he does change out depending upon whim and wear a jacket and tie. .... If we do this on CCL, I'm sure it fits on HAL. hope this helps. The dinning room is for dressing, the buffet for dressing down., to each there own

Maryandi Posted November 8, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 8, 2006 Becuse we wanted to be in the casino & elsewhere after dinner, we did not wear shorts or jeans. We wore long pants and a collared shirt (blouse, etc-me) and on formal night we were a little better dressed and DH had a coat on. The one cruise where we ate every dinner in the Lido & 1 in Pinnacle. We had a last minute cruise and couldn't eat at late sitting (too late for us). Actually, we loved it. and have eaten more dinners in the Lido since then. MaryAnn
