Afraid I am one of those people you had to wait for. There were 13 of us and our flight was canceled. Thank goodness one guy really took charge - he got up another flight, contacted the cruise line. When we got to the airport on the other end we were literally whisked off to the ship and boarded in quite a flurry! For the next five days people pointed, laughed and said "oh your the ones!" BTW - it was a Carnival ship

I wouldn't have laughed or pointed, I would have gone up to the guy and congratulated him. He took the bull by the horns, he's sitting on top of the ladder. The ship waited for you.... Rah, Rah

I'd like to know everything he said to the cruise line to get them to wait.

does anyone know what someone has paid in the past to be taken to the ship?? I have seen people say "they paid a pretty penny," but I have never actually seen a dollar amount. Maybe that's because they were pretty embarrassed about having to do it at all! :D But a "pretty penny" is a different amount to just about everyone! So I was just wondering if anyone has actually heard any dollar amounts that people have had to pay.

A single parent mom and her two kids got left behind in Jamaica on my RCCL cruise. She said she was charged $50. I don't know if it was $50 for each of her and her two kids or $50 for the 3 of them. She had no cash on her so the captain paid the owner of the boat that brought her out to the ship and they put the charge on her Sail and Sign card. In fact, the captain was standing just inside the ship when she and her kids climbed up the rope ladder and onto the ship. She said she had never been so scared in her life than she was when she got to the pier and saw the ship leaving her and her kids behind. She said she got a cramp in her stomach similar to labor pains at watching the ship sail away. She didn't wear a watch and forgot to "stay on the ship's time".

On debarkation day, the ship will wait for a several passengers when delayed because flights, if they can. Often times, Carnival will send one of the transport buses to the airport to wait for the passengers and will whisk them right out of the airport onto the bus and over to the pier in record time. As long as their documents are in order, they are on the ship in the speed of light and the ship is on its way. Now, on the individual ports, Carnival is much less warm and fuzzy when it comes to late passengers.

We always sail during college spring break because we have college aged children who travel with us. Well in March of 2004, we were on the Victory and in Cozumel. Carlos 'n Charlies.......need I say more. We were to be back on the ship by 11:30 for a midenight sailaway. Most of the port side balcony passengers were onboard and watching the "staggering" coeds try to make it back to the ship. The crowd was huge by 11:30. We watched the port close, the bars, the stores, everything was dark. But we were still sitting there. From our balcony we could see the bridge and were watching them as well as listening to them talk to the officers on the dock. Seems we were missing Dan. At 2 minutes to midnight in the far distance we saw a figure running (not too straight) with his arms up like "Rocky". Well, it was Dan. By now everyone is yelling his name and cheering him on. While they had been waiting for Dan, they had already removed most of the lines and left only one gangway out. Well, Dan's foot hit the gangway and the ship pulled away that quick. He was famous from that point on for the rest of the cruise. We left on time and actually it was rather entertaining.;)

We also had a single mother traveling on our cruise, 4 kids ages 1 to 7 and at all 4 ports, just like clockwork, her name would be called and then you would be the taxi speeding up the pier and her running to the ship dragging the kids behind her.

You would think she would have learned after the first time or two.

We were in Vietnam (Nha Trang)and seven people were late coming back from the beach. Since Vietnam is terrified of people trying to jump ship to stay in Vietnam (this seemed odd to me), all our passports were held to ensure that we would be back on board. So, instead of leaving these yahoos behind, we sat in port for an additional hour waiting for them to wander back up the pier. The worst part was that they wre very smug and seemed proud that they had delayed the ship...until they were escorted away by ship's personnel. Never saw them again on the rest of the cruise...hmmm, what could have happened to them?

We were on the Explorer of the Seas last month sitting on our balcony for sailaway from Bermuda and it was time to go. However, we were still sittin there. We then see one of the islands ferries pulling in with a couple of guys on it waving and yelling. Anyone who has been to Kings Wharf in Bermuda knows that it is a pretty long walk from the ship to where the ferries dock. So the ferry docks and we see these 2 guys full speed ahead screaming and running, the entire ship is watching as well and cheering them on, it was pretty amusing. I have attached a photo of them running around the bend. never attached a photo on here before, hope it works......:)

Now that's funning....love it.

They NEVER learn........I have a sister in-law that is late for everything! I was reading this thread and thinking of her. Wouldn't it be funny to see her be her usual lateness and miss the boat? I just don't understand why anyone puts up with this.....restaurants (1 hour late for a reservation), doctors offices (always at least 15 minutes late bringing my mother in-law to her appointments). She has not learned because no one has ever said I'm sorry I can't help you your reservation/appointment was an hour ago!
