ganana Posted November 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2006 We will be in Gand Cayman in Jan. We have booked excursions at all other ports, so we just want to go to a beach and do some snorkeling from there. Does anyone have any recomendations? Also, would the snorkeling be any good from the beach or should we take an excursion by boat?
mrsfuzzmo Posted November 21, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2006 There is excellent snorkeling off the beach in Grand Cayman. There are also many beaches with great snorkeling. I'm sure some one on here can direct you. There is a shipwreck not too far from the tender pier up 7 mile beach a couple of blocks to your left as you dissembark the tenders. You can also snorkel at Edens rock just to the right of the tender dock. All within walking distance. The barrier reef area (which you can swim out to) is up around at Rum point and I recall excellent snorkeling there as well. Have heard about Cemetary beach and Cheeseburger as well, but haven't been there. We are planning a stroll down to the right to Sunset Resort (??? I think that's what it's called) where they have great snorkeling, a dive shop, bar and restaurant and showers. It's about a mile walk I think. That's our plan. tigermaroon2 Posted November 22, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 22, 2006 Seagrape is a beautiful beach....but the snorkeling isn't great. The reef there has been over snorkeled and is mostly dead. You'll see a few fish, find a neat shell or two, but it's not spectacular for snorkeling and I wouldn't reccomend it for that.
