Bridge4033 Posted December 10, 2006 #355 Share Posted December 10, 2006 I got to see it from my back yard. A little too cloudy, but still quite a glow. I should have gone down to the beach. A night launch looks like a huge Roman candle taking off. Oh well, maybe next time. I think the last time was around 1990, at least the one I saw. Can't wait to get on the Pearl!!! It's about a 4-5 hour drive from St. Augustine, but at least not a plane ride!!! Celebration is Jacksonville is about 1 hour and Port Canaveral is about 2 1/2 hours, so I'm pretty lucky to be so close to all these cruises. I will be sailing on the Radiance on Jan 6, for my nieces wedding. I guess I'm pretty lucky all around. Lil Tennis Chick's 16th birthday is tomorrow so it's all about her right now, of course!! (At least she thinks so!!) But she won't be on the Radiance with her mom!!

Cosmopolitan Posted December 10, 2006 #358 Share Posted December 10, 2006 All I want for Christmas is .... my L'Occ--itane Oh Saaaaaanta! Santa NCL! Ann wants Frances Denny, cruising from MN, Greenie, Swoosh2005, cpbodnar, Cosmopolitan, Studsneaker, and watchdiva want L'Occitane (sorry if I missed anyone ...!). OK?? The list grows by the moment, Santa NCL! We've been good girls! If we have to buy our own we won't be able to afford cruising. You'll lose customers! It's for your own good, we're just thinking of you! P.S. Hi Cosmo! There are still some suites left on The Gem 2/6/08. C'mon girl! So GLAD you didn't lose your sense of humor while you were gone from CC:) We've been looking at the Gem for January. DD getting married 2007...Yikes, weddings are expensive these days. I'm even willing to take a smaller suite and get in two cruises;) Don't think I can wait until the Gem to cruise. I even got the NCL card a few months ago to get some points. These Pearl posts are killing me! They are having so much fun and so much food:)
bubiesmom Posted December 10, 2006 #359 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Shoreguy, sounds like you're having an awesome time. I have 21 days to go and reading your posts is getting me excited even though I'm just going to Hawaii.
Cosmopolitan Posted December 10, 2006 #360 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Oh I almost forgot about Skippy. The worm that tried to get to America but I fear ended up buried at sea. CC dinner in Tepanyki, Freah pea pods to start, out jumps a worm from one of the pods on my sons plate. He had only eaten half a pea needing the rest to get to the end of the cruise. Well, I loved those pea pods - so nice and salty. Are worms salty:confused: Any escargots stories?...please don't share. I only eat them on NCL;) Thanks again for your very informative posts. Snoopyto Posted December 10, 2006 #361 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks Kimdave...I got to see the take off live. I wonder if the folks on the Pearl got to see her too! Ciao for now, W A W W Actually, we did not even get to see her. I think we heard her roaring overhead though, but unsure. Still dark out here in the Atlantic. But hoping for clear skies today. Has not been much a lay out and tan cruise.

Mc_Cruiser Posted December 10, 2006 #365 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Tan? I think we are starting to rust :) Having a great time here on the Pearl, she is a wonderful ship. kimdave68 Posted December 10, 2006 #366 Share Posted December 10, 2006 In the middle of the pond a worm in a pea pod is far better than a bug in your azipod. :D You definitely would not be able to hear anything from the shuttle that far away. If you could, it would not be good. Check out NASA's official launch countdown blog here for lots of interesting info! http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts116/launch/launch-vlcc.html
shoreguy Posted December 10, 2006 Author #367 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Sun Dec 10 – 28 19 34 N 066 10.51 W cloudy again –about 750 miles from Miami north of San Juan PR – seas remain moderate 4-7. Wonder why I take the time to post – it is that evil Saeco espresso machine in the cabin. I found out this morning I am addicted. The machine and I had it out earlier and I won. Made my first double of the day and up came a big ? and an error message dregtray full. What and where is that. I found out how to take the machine apart in a desperate effort to get more espresso. All is well now and off to a busy day at sea. Tonight is the big production show Tubez – the show revolves around an international group of performers pushing the limits in freestyle dance and sports. I believe it is X games meets GAR. Also included in todays events: Cruise giveaway bingo, Towel folding, Christmas Carols sing along in the Atrium, Mr. Sexy Legs poolside ( I am a shoe in to win..lol), Shuffleboard Tournament, 80s Party tonight, Arts and Crafts, Fox Trot class, Trivia, final art auction, Ring toss tournament, Pastry demo, Martini Clinic (noon again like every day. Just tooooo early), ping pong tournament, Mini Golf putting, Margarita tasting at 4, German class, Football tournament (soccer), Seminar on two centuries of American music, but most important for me the finals of the blackjack tournament at 3 pm. Quest was won in walk away by a team from the roll call. I have pulled some of the video from the TV and I think it belongs on the internet…lol I am back. Had to go push the button on the Saeco S500 Incanto Sirius monster espresso machine – worse then a slot machine. Dinner was excellent in the Bistro and free as a Platinum Latitudes event. There are a total of 9 members onboard. I used the opportunity to try the tasting menu . Wonderful huge piece of tenderloin carved tableside for two. Forgot to take a picture. Ran into Derekos from the roll call yesterday leaving the casino counting the $500+ he won at bingo. Some of the CC folks are having a few issues. Long waits at Indigo when they keep showing up at 7:30 – solved they made a standing reservation. Sellie has had some issues with her cabin. Not as clean as they would like with daily streaks on the mirrors. 3 lights were out and they came while they were out and fixed one. They have been to the desk 3 times and still no shower light. They did solve the 220 power issue for her hair dryer but providing an extension cord and using the fridge power outlet that is 220. They continue to try and solve it without escalation. Colonius had the artificial plant fall over during the storm and fill his shoe with a white sticky substance. Still unidentified. He was enjoying dinner in his sandals…lol. Time to get out of here back later – maybe
Maryfrei Posted December 10, 2006 #368 Share Posted December 10, 2006 After reading about the storm I was thinking that SG must really have a strong stomach. After reading about Skippy, I am convinced of it:eek:!

lovelabs Posted December 10, 2006 #372 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks to all for your informative posts about the Pearl! It has made for interesting reading, rolller coast rides and all! I have heard that unlike the Jewel, the Pearl would NOT have a self-laundry on board. Is that true?? gottogocruisin Posted December 10, 2006 #373 Share Posted December 10, 2006 You once again have made so many of us happy with your continual blog. I really don't care about chocolate fondue, escargot and filet because I am going to have it all, but what I do care about are the people who will be on the cruise and the great staff. It sounds like a super ship with so many ammenities and I am hoping that our "girls" week will end up full of pampering and fun, fun, fun. Thanks again for all the time you have taken to let all of us know about a wonderful ship. This is my first on NCL so I am HAPPY!! Someday perhaps I will get to Platinum so I can also get the free "stuff." Thanks also to all the CC posters for helping us decide on what ship we would cruise. Zeno Posted December 10, 2006 #374 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Great-thanks a lot ;) ! More ammo for the anti NCL threads: THE FOOD IS SO BAD IT HAS WORMS IN IT! And the people who cruise NCL are so inbred that they name the worms! -Monte No No Monte - you have it all wrong - people will now complain about the lack of worms on their cruise. I see it now "There were absolutely NO WORMS on my food - I was cheated - NCL owes me a refund!"
filomene Posted December 11, 2006 #375 Share Posted December 11, 2006 The holidays will be here before we know it. I am sure we have all experienced joy, sorrow, failure and success to some measure this year. Some of us will embrace the coming celebrations and others will face them with as much courage as they can muster. If we think of this board as a community of people with a shared interest, we should also remember that we are just people..... And none of us can claim to be perfect people. Let's keep this place somewhere where we can agree to disagree.;) Susie that is REALLY beatifully said. As I understand Cruise Critic - means a place where I can praise the highlights of a cruise BUT I can also comment on its weak points. Keeping a civil tongue is, however, a prerequisite.
