Shopping in Ports of Call

Yes, they could be. Many are caught attempting to smuggle prohibited substances. On many islands, certain items that are common and legal; for example food and fruit; are banned. And of course, NCL will check your bags for alcohol upon returning to the ship.

You're actually crossing an International border. Whether they will or will not perform a search is immaterial, they could if they wished.

When reboarding the ship from ports of call, what is the procedure for declaring merchandise purchased on shore? I was wondering if all bags leaving and entering at ports where subject to screening?

All bags are "screened" upon embarking the ship at ports.

They will hold any liquor if they find it until disembarkation.

As far as "declaring" your merchandise, you will have a customs form to complete before you disembark the ship at your final disembarkation port.

We have never had our bags screened at disembarkation at the ports.

Hope this helps:)
