Snorkel - Freeport or Nassau?

We're leaving in 4 days! I've read here that Freeport is kind of dingy so I thought we might go snorkeling there and soak up some local culture in Nassau. Is snorkeling any good in Freeport? Will the water be freezing? Does anyone have any suggestions for booking a snorkeling tour through a company other than the cruise ship? TIA! :)

snorkeling is great in freeport.. there are some tours that leave from port lucaya but not sure of the names.. one might be pat and.... i would go with the ship's tour .. probably around the same price..nassau we did the ship's tour over rainbow reef.. that also was not very $$$ thru the ship.. actually the same price as on our own..both places are excellent for snorkeling.. lots of fish and coral :)
